Fatty liver is synonymous with alcohol and obesity. Won't whiskey make matters even worse? A Wazuan reported death of a loved one, from the same, courtesy of alcohol, not too long ago.

Reduce (or stop) intake of animal protein to the bare minimum, eat loads of fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water, and rest. This is the surest way.

Unfortunately, during my semester break a few months back I got a case of alcohol induced liver inflammation. Not that My alcohol consumption was alarmingly high but I consumed a stronger substance than my body was used to plus I had stayed away from alcohol for such a long period of time that my liver could not handle it. I was put on vitamin supplements and the remedy that I have described above. My liver was back to normal and the doctor said that I had recovered quite quickly.

Thing is, the Liver is a very interesting organ as it knows how to heal itself. Therefore keep away from substances that case harm like alcohol and all will be well.

Long time "Guest", first time posting.

Will try and keep it simple,
There is no cure for non-alcoholic fatty liver, but if you control the main problems that cause it you can keep away cirrhosis. The 3 main brothers that cause it are obesity, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. This is what to do:

Obesity: Mwambie apunguze kilo, cut back on carbohydrates and sugars especially. Plus most important is to exercise regularly, people don't realize that exercise can cure/prevent many health issues.

Diabetes: that needs it's own thread, but also important is to cut back on carbohydrates, sugars, and increase exercise.

Hyperlipidemia: if it is familial that needs many doctor visits, aggressive medical management, and diet and exercise but they don't help much in this case (not sure how common familial hyperlipidemia is, mimi ni diaspora). If it is due to a sedentary lifestyle or obesity, read above.

So as a start mwambie to cut down on carbs and sugars, increase fruits and veggies, exercise, na cut back on alcohol.

"Do as I say, not as I do", yours truly.

Thank you all for your wonderful advice.

Anyone know of a good liver specialist, locally or in India. This is a serious case. I wouldn't want to come back here and report that the fellow passed on.

Unfortunately no. Passed on. Take good care of your bodies and go for regular check-ups.

Over the weekend, I read a sad story where wilson's disease was misdiagnosed by Kenyan doctors as Liver Cirrhosis despite the patient being non alcoholic.

Maybe what is being diagnosed as non alcoholic fatty liver could be Wilson's disease
