Syriza has taken over, and philosophers like Slavoj Zizek http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavoj_Žižek have to help us figure out what next, especially when this scenario http://www.theguardian.c...-against-corrupt-elites is ubiquitous.

The incoming PM is a young atheist- probably the envy of many here- and bears on his shoulders what few will dare to carry- the task of bringing fresh ideas that can bridge the gap between the rich and poor.

So far, I can only wish him success in his endeavors!

Some expect Angela to relent, given the flow and pattern of politics across Europe.

But what real alternatives are there? We are in a period where Marx or Smith or Keynes are far from effective in their prescriptions. Humans have to come up with a new idea- something like the agrarian revolution.

A kind of solution that'd also apply here in Kenya.

Merkel will not relent. That is one iron-fisted woman. Remember when David Cameron was making noises about leaving the EEC? She issued a statement with the usual German succinctness, summarily telling David he is free to leave Europe if he wants. David has shut up since.
This new boy will make all the usual noises that will make Greeks and socialists happy (just like Hollande with his 75% income tax, among other silly policies which the French govt has quietly dropped), then the bank will break. People can't eat air. He will tuck his tail and send emissaries to Berlin to ask Merkel for help, where he will be quietly made to swallow the bitter gruel of economic austerity.

In 2013 Greek lenders withheld bailout funds because of the Greek's deviation from the deficit management policies.
Tsipras will tone down once he meets the purse checkers'.

People in Brussels apparently will not condone these Greek shenanigans.

So until the Greeks capitulate, we can say they will no longer condone the people in Brussels.

I tend to agree with you.

Brussels is not about to let Greece renege on its obligations without paying a steep price. In any case the last few years have made the prospect of a Greek exit from the Euro less unthinkable. In other words if Syrizia threatens to walk, they better be ready for Greece to become a third world economy.

For those who criticize Germany, they forget that the EU, unlike the US, does have the power to inflate away its debt. Every cent that has been lent has to be repaid and Angelas point has been that 'the sooner we start the better for all of us.'

And how long will Brussels condone throwing good money at a bad system?
