Venturing into TV they will be hammered heavily with the likes of Multichoice and Zuku.
It's more profitable being the infrastructure provider.

They know the business of data and voice transmission, question is do they understand the business of news.

My suggestion let them sell bandwidth to others

Theyve got to divest their investments theyve got too much cash on their hands which will be idle soon , what do you think they can do with it. Theyd kill multichoice , its expensive and desperetly needs real competition not zuku or smart times i mean something with quality on air . I think home internet and with it TV would be a good bet especially as a packaged deal

That cash could be used in venturing to other countries through acquisitions of stakes in struggling companies.
Multichoice is richer;fighting multichoice is like fighting gava you will definitely lose

Then if thats the case safcom had once thought of going into Ethiopia population is almost double i believe , so if 10 % take up lines and mpesa takes off well. Then its all $ in the bank but have to be careful if what happened to yu in kenya happens to safcom in Ethiopia then were all tears

Safcom will get into TV. They could be waiting for that switch off on analog TV then they dive in proper. Cable TV is so much better than satellite TV, competition here will be Zuku. My guess is they will be providing Internet + TV on their package. Pricing will be key....

The Ethiopian govt is very restrictive of their market. Its going to be a tall order for them to just dive in there (you cant even skype in ET) Most probably the govt will set up a mobile operating company and maybe Safcom may be invited as a shareholder.

Home internet should be Safaricom's next move if they dont want Zuku to take away their data customers. I have Zuku at home, never use Safcom bundles while at home. Getting into this market early enough will prevent the money from flowing outside. In countries like Canada the leading telecommunication companies such as Rogers and Bell provide phone services, home internet, cable services and home phone. All the money stays within their pipeline whether inside the home or out
