@sandu;

Seems you r good in electronics….

@smano;

I got the satellite finder at Spikes Spares & Electronics shop,River Road/Luthuli jxn... at just ksh1000.

In simple terms,to align the dish wire the satellite finder between the dish and the receiver (cable that goes to the decoder),turn on the decoder.

Loosen the adjustment screws..And adjust your satellite dish Left-Right until the meter on the sat finder indicates optimum signal strength then tighten the Left-Right adj screws.
Now adjust your satellite dish top-down until the meter on the sat finder indicates optimum signal strength then tighten the top-down adj screws.
Next adjust the LNB until the meter on the sat finder indicates optimum signal strength

go back to the house and enjoy...

For detailed steps,check this link on how to install and align the dish.

http://satellitetv.digit...r_satellite_install.php

(The sat finder also has a 2-page guide. which works fine)

Since mine was already installed,I just did alignment as indicated in Step 5 of the article.

NB: The installation part talks about finding the correct Elevation and Azimuth so that you know how your dish should be facing initially. To achieve this I suggest you look at the neighbors’ dish and let yours face the same direction….then you can start finding the signal using the sat finder.

Next time am moving in a new house,I expect to do the installation myself…(maybe I will get someone just to drill the wall)

By the way; have you thot of how much money you save if you do such tasks yourself......

I can't wait to service my car next month............

got all the tools ready

Just hang on..........

Useful info.

I think I'll get myself one of those satellite finders,in case I ever want to do any dish realignment.

QN: Is the 1k one at spikes a digital or analog one?

It's been a while since I tinkered with electronics but it shall come back to me.

You are very right and def on the right track when it comes to 'DIY'..when i first moved to Europe..i had a very rough time as i bought my household stuff..everything,literally everything came in parts for you to fix..when you looked at the manual it seemed easy..but wait until you get started..you realise how unskillful you are...my wardrobe took me a whole day from 10 am to Midnight ..i have never felt frustrated like that in my life...nowadays it all seems so easy..i literally do everything..including shaving myself without a mirror (believe it or not).it's a good feeling and enhances your skills greatly..cheers

@ sandu

while checkin on those FTA channels I thought I saw this DBN station. Is this the magician cum preacher Deya guy or is this someone else.

i'd love to watch this channel if it was the former,heck i'd even pay for it even if it's FTA. maybe he has a 'DIY for making miracle babies'.

is there anyone who's watched this? what are the programmes? ngwono...?

It's amazing what you can achieve if you don't care who gets the credit.

Yes; you are right. The DBN (Deya Broadcasting Network) is fo Gilbert Deya Ministries.
They broadcast from London. Most of the times they have live preachings from Gilbert himself. Prayer sessions over the phone (live),sometimes they do nigerian movies & gospel music.
I would advice anybody willing to get FTA,to think of the 1.8M (6ft.) dish and above. This will enable you receive a hundreds of channels on C-band & using the same dish(with a slight modification/Additional LNBs) you will be able to receive Ku band channels too.
You can also use the same dish on the pay tv channels(DSTV,MY TV,etc).
As i said again,it's a great one time price piece.

Great info Sandu. I'll try and get my landlord interested in the FTA since all the apartments are connected to one aerial and sat dish..

How about splitting dstv to share channels. Guys, is this illegal and how is it done?
