Let's now wait for gazettement of the "decrees" by CS Kamau. So it means for D/C pick-up there will be no Annual inspection by Motor Vehicle Inspector?

There were wide consultations! Think of the congestion in towns first. That removes the 14 sitters(or seaters). Then think of the comfort of a bus and time taken to fill the bus for long distance. Lastly think of the practicability of investors in long distance travel for the two types of transport.

Some routes just don't have the demand for a 33 seater especially during the of peak period except probably Christmas period.

Generally speaking, what I've noticed over time is that for journey times of up to about 4 hours, most upcountry travelers prefer lower capacity vehicles even when the higher capacity ones are available and competitively priced.

Me thinks the government is not interested in decongesting the city.
10-14 seaters can operate on upcountry routes but their terminals should be outside the city as follows:
Western Kenya-Westlands
Coast/Ukambani/A.River-Bellevue
Mt Kenya -Githurai
N.Eastern-Eastleigh

This would free considerable space in the CBD.

It's quite some time since I was in Nairobi but I think it's also congested with human traffic. Suppose we have Parliament and senate elsewhere?

Are the 14 seaters the only ones that bring congestion.? I believe its the reckless driving and dropping of passagers that is partly to blame for that notion.i think its the very many saloon cars that carry on average a single person that are largely to blame.let cities introduce access levies to private non commercial cars.the government should before banning matatus should come up with a subway solution between kenyatta hospital to jogoo road, westlands to industrial area etc

Transport authority suspends 243 matatus over harassment of women
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2014 - 00:00 –
ALL vehicles operating under Nazigi sacco have been suspended after a woman was stripped and molested in one of the sacco's Githurai buses.
National Transport and Safety Authority Director general Francis Meja said the traffic boss has been instructed to impound any vehicle belonging to the sacco found operating.
"We investigated and found an assault took place in a PSV under Nazigi, which is a duly registered sacco," he said.
All 243 vehicles operating the Githurai-Nairobi route have been suspended and are required to present all their vehicles to the authority for inspection within 14 days, he said.
Meja said the authority has received increasing reports of women being stripped naked by suspected public service vehicle conductors and drivers over the last two weeks.
"We hope that these actions will serve as a warning to all PSVs operators and their employees that harassment of women and other passengers as a whole will not be tolerated by NTSA," he said.
He said stripping violates the code of conduct expected of PSVs.

I think this rule locks out those vans imported during the 14 seater ban and are now more than 10 yr old since registration. Already registered will continue operating.

Happy new year everyone. I'm thinking of getting into the matatu business by joining a sacco like 2NK, Mololine, Northrift....etc. I have a fulltime job with little time to make follow-up. Anyone here would recommend a reliable sacco and one that has favourable terms and conditions? Please share.

Regards,
Charlow

Please elaborate what you mean by follow up. I have heard sob stories from North Rift and 2NK. I know someone with a vehicle at Mololine who joined last year and he is doing fine. Not sure if their management works for real or he is just lucky he got a trustworthy driver. Above all, do your own research. Nobody can advise you on the best sacco to join.
