I say bring that bill. Enact it..

It is being supported here because people feel one of us is in government and we are good with it. but we have been here before. Somebody else will take over from 'our own' and it shall be back to Moi era.

@pound foolish, isn't it interesting how history is replaying itself here. For now its okay, we need a law to make sure our man runs the state without the media, opposition or media demanding accountability.

And then in 2022, a transition akin to 1978, and then we have the next round of fight for freedom. This time around, we won't join them in the fight. We saw what it did to Matiba and we didn't like it.

Guess they were too young to hear about journalist Wallace gichere being dropped from the 4th floor of sheria house and confined to a wheel chair for life.Or rally driver karanja killed and buried in eldoret cemetery, or Nakuru based advocate, kamangara murdered by special branch.

Last time it was Opiyo. But who cares ? We are in power now.

Is the law targetted at those in opposition?

The law will never go past the high court in its current form. Uhuru is best informed to benchmark it against the constitution and amend it before its taken through a long drawn out court battle.

I thought Githu would know better.

BTW, can parliament create laws that amend the bill of rights or is this one of the sacred parts of the constitution that require people participation.

Just for records before I accused: I'm totally against terrorism. Never!

I appreciate the efforts the garnment has done to try and restore some sense of security in our country. Including being told by the prezo that it is our responsibility Shame on you

I want to point out also that we have seen most people arrested and later released without charges after many days in custody. These arrests have been seen as "...targeting some people for harassment and illegal arrests and detention."

I'm going to give you a glimpse of the magnitude of this bill if adopted, in context of what has happened in other countries, e.g. the US.

1. ...Provisions giving government powers to detain "suspects" for days without charge.

2. ...bypassing the normal rules of evidence under the constitution, allowing some bodies of garment to operate in secret.

3. ...official secrecy surrounding the detentions. We have heard of grave plight of these detainees.
- denial of access to legal Counsel
- denial of access to relatives,
- physical and verbal abuse
- cruel conditions of confinement including prolonged solitary confinement,
- inadequate exercise and the wearing of shackles during non-contact visits.
- blanket denial of bail

4. Presumption of Guilt, on basis of mere suspicion of involvement in terrorism, in violation of fair trial standards.

5. Unfair treatment of the detainees, human rights abuse of the detainees

6. Lies by the governments that the war on terror is not a war on some people. But the truth of the matter is that most of the victims of this war on terror are mostly certain people, be they individuals, institutions or organizations have reduced the said statement to a mere rhetoric.

So to me, it remains to be seen whether those involved in the war on terror can overcome their suspicion or mistrust of others and turn them into partners in the war on terror.

NOTE: Sorry for those who complain about my long post. Read it, or skip it.

Soon we will no longer be free to discuss siasa in the pub, since the guy sitting next could be nsis and you could end up bundled in a car boot and later incarcerated huko nyati/nyayo house basement for a whole year without trial for being a security threat. Ask nyongo, orengo, koigi, baba etc. Welcome back to the 80s/90s. It's kanu reloaded. Oh i forgot, it's the kanu chairman, ouru, who is currently in charge.

And the laws will affect a Kenyan first before they affect a terrorist

For those who are too young to know. Please I besiege you, you do not want to live in a country controlled by Kanu wannabes. Even Moi was doing all good things because he cared.

Ask those who visited Nyayo house to know how much they cared. Now imagine Raira is president and he uses these laws on you.

I hate Alai but honestly, petty issues like this are just a guide to the Kenya of 2015-2022 if it ever gets there.

Kindly note that Robert Alai was arrested as a matter of National Security and the rule of law will be applied in dealing with him.
If Obiero did it, Who Am I?

Let the games begin.

"dealing with him"...more like "atatuona".

I don't like Alai but let people start opening their eyes on the new world order.

Once the bill is passed on Thursday, I will lose my wazua logins coz I do not wish to be arrested for disagreeing with this or any other gov't.

Absolute power corrupts.
