Why are the share prices for most of the stocks suddenly going downhill?

First the prices went up for most stocks, now the same prices are going downhill. Anyone who has an idea why?

For those who buy low and sell high it is very disappointing when the prices of what you had bought suddenly go down.

Very normal... In my novice opinion, both upward/decline movements proceed in a see-saw format; but the trend is generally up or down over time.

Problem with us as investors is emotion overcomes rationality. Question is:
--are you buying to make short-term gains; if so always sell when share is going up e.g. MSC at 9.00 not when it starts coming down
--are you buying for long-term gains; if so your mistake was to follow the market keenly. You'd make more money if you were asleep and woke up at the end of the year.

If I were you, I would not worry myself sick with day to day prices. Be concerned with the general trend going forward in 2010...
