Its expected to hit Kenya in the next couple of weeks/early next month.
It will be the mother of all El Ninos that has ever hit the Earth in history...the 1997/98 El Nino will be a child's play when compared.

It has already devastated Afghanistan!

Prepare well.

If this prediction was done by the Kenya metrological department, then expect scorching sun!!

I farm near a water body and fear making losses this season if El Nino hits so I have been postponing planting but I am getting impatient. I wish weather forecasting was simple and accurate Sad

The Oceanic Niño Index (ONI) measures sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific. Zero is average, positives numbers are warmer, and negative numbers are colder. Anything above 0.5 is considered El Niño conditions -- and anything above 1.5 is a strong El Niño.

The strongest El Niño was the 2.3 event in 1997-98. The current figure for this year's El Niño is 1.0, but it's been climbing for four straight months. Almost every forecast predicts that this year's El Niño will climb above 2.0 -- and many are forecasting the strongest El Niño since records began in the 1950s.

Which areas will be hit?

Be prepared,....for the losses if you live in the highlands or bumper harvest if you live in the arid and semi arid areas.

Trust the Star to sensationalize news smile

Quote:
ONE of the strongest and wettest El Ninos will soon pummel East Africa, bringing heavy rains, floods and malaria. The prospect of a record- breaking El Nino is worrying since the 1997 weather killed many people in Kenya, and left hundreds homeless.

Look out! Forecasters warn El Nino could be strongest ever recorded and urge disaster response teams to prepare

Conditions bear a resemblance to the huge El Niño event of 1997-98

Forecast says El Nino conditions are likely to last until January

In previous El Niño events, California had 150 to 200% increase in rainfall

It can trigger heavy rains and floods in South America and scorching weather in Asia and as far away as east Africa

So no matter how much money we have as a war chest for any disaster, it is pointless if our culture on the roads remains backwards. We need multiple simulation and punishment to ignorant drivers to attain the level of preparedness needed to see us through El Niño and similar disasters in the future.

................By law, broadcasters are supposed to give a few minutes for public information such as emergency and disaster broadcasts.

Sasa motorists tujipange. Iam already seeing me sitting in traffic for a day. Last elnino I was almost marooned around milele south C..

One of the impassable roads will be the southern bypass, the untarmarked area, if its not redone...especially the narrow area.
