Yesterday i sent some five mails to people round the globe, 2 were in SA, 2 in Kenya and 1 in London and the 2 chaps in kenya are yet back to me a whole 24 hours later!!!!!

Is this us in a nutshell ie:
- Not in my desk
- Busy
- Sick
- Wazuaing..(Pun Intended)

I think it boils down to work ethic.

Actually you beat me to posting this. I sent an email enquiry a couple of months ago to 8 of Kenya's largest players in a certain industry. Of these, only 3 have responded to date. Mind you I was giving them business. Response to emails is at best, pathetic in corporate Kenya.

Its both corporate and individuals who are so allergic to quick responses. Some people wouldnt know a great opportunity even if it came riding atop a red bus.

I sent a journalist a vacancy that urgently needed to be filed with the UN media offices and he...he just snobbed it. It was a very good offer, he said he only read the title and didn't have time to peruse it. Later, to my consternation, he comes lamenting losing such a good opportunity,

Another one runs a co. offering advertising solutions, and has for months been trying to penetrate the UN system to be on their panel of suppliers. Chance came through one small tender for printing branded t-shirts n caps. Not only did he not bother to follow-up on the tender but also switched off his phone on me when we kept asking for progress...wat do people want?!

Is it possible that email/web culture is more prevalent in the other countries than Kenya? Phone seem to be used more here.

Now about time keeping, William Shakespeare, once said better three hours too soon than a minute late. Read somewhere that Ivory Coast declared it a 'national emergency' and even gave a guy a Villa in effort to reclaim lost time. Read also that Germans are known for their punctuality.

Its all about virtues; Integrity, Diligence, courtesy, Discipline....name them. When you are not intelligent enough communicationwise, these simple things skip you and they can be very costly in life. Think of all those opportunities missed! Thats why there are institutions that teach communication skills and many esp. in corporate Kenya should enrol for such classes.....my two cents...

Kenyans it seems prefer seeing you before they start replying to your emails.. they dont believe(thanks to our Naija brodas) them as an initiator of any transactions..biz or friendship.

What I can say is that Kenyans both corporate and individuals do not use ICT to the maximum.
I deal alot with debtors and definitely email is easier in giving details etc. but its annoying nobody bothers to respond via email. One has to go ahead and call refering to an email earlier sent. Me think we have negative ATT, ignorant, crappy sloppy and above all lazy. If s'one cannot respond to an sms@ 3 bob wat else can they do? From xperience Englishmen/women are very effective in responding to emails/calls.
Kenyans gotta style up.
