I hope today is 1st April-Fools days, coz this story sounds like a joke

Quote:
The aircraft developed low fuel mid-air, with its reserves unable to cover the Nairobi distance, so it was diverted here to refuel

Yet it only had 38 Passengers!
If Obiero did it, Who Am I?

In my simple thinking, there's no excuse for running out of fuel, that's why these planes have computers that figure out all these things before takeoff - even if the weather changed so dramatically en route that they flew at rooftop level for the whole distance.

The plane was from Delhi. Not sure when that route commenced, but assuming it's still a young route to be matured, they should put Embraers on it, they have the range.

38 pax is disappointing. KQ B738 are configured for 145 pax, best case scenario is the outbound was 100%, which gives the route 63% which is below break even of 70%, unless they have deployed larger aircraft for cargo reasons.

If not cargo, they should consider scrapping Delhi and code sharing from Mumbai.

@NationBreaking: KQ SAYS flight KQ221 from New Delhi that was diverted to Mombasa had enough fuel but developed mechanical fault in the fuel control system.

Flight KQ 221 cleared and en route to Nairobi
NAIROBI OCTOBER 20, 2014 -- @KenyaAirways wishes to confirm that its flight KQ221 from New Delhi to Nairobi that had been diverted to Moi International Airport in Mombasa this afternoon has been repaired and cleared and is now en route to Nairobi.

It is scheduled to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 4pm.

The aircraft had developed a mechanical fault in the fuel control system and although it had enough fuel, it needed to land at the nearest alternate airport.

This was also a precautionary measure as the JKIA airspace was closed for Mashujaa day celebrations at the time it was to land in Nairobi

The Boeing 737- 700 carrying 38 passengers was originally due to arrive at in Nairobi at 12.20pm.

Kenya Airways assures all its passengers that safety remains a key priority in all its operations. We apologize for any inconveniences caused.

Thank you for flying the Pride of Africa.

Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.
