The year is 1993. The largest economies in Africa by Nominal GDP are as follows:

1.South Africa - $130.448 billion
2.Algeria - $50.963 billion
3.DR Congo - $47.45 billion
4.Egypt - $47.101 billion
5.Libya - $30.921 billion
6.Morocco - $30.138 billion
7.Nigeria - $16.965 billion
8.Tunisia - 15.945 billion
9.Cameroon - $13.492 billion
10.Cote d'Ivoire - $11.364 billion
11.Ethiopia - $8.974 billion
12.Kenya - $8.92 billion

30 years later in 2012, DRC's GDP has dropped to 16th largest on the continent at $27.483B while Algeria and Egypt are at $208B and $262B respectively

so after Mobutu was removed in 1997 the mighty congo river dried up, the minerals vanished and the fertile soils became a desert and the DRC folks moved to the slums of kinshasa

But you also got to give it to the oga brothers.From the above their economy has been growing at an average rate of 12% for the last 30 years! Where will they be now if the country was stable while ours has been growing at half the rate of Nigerian growthSad Sad

Don'tbe too harsh on Kenya, we are the biggest non mineral economy. We agree the 1990s we a lost decade, but it could've been worse.
