Brace yourselves for even more harder time.

According to the Sunday Nation, Mumias "Pepper" Company will retrench half of its work force as part of the recovery plan.

Those court cases, compensations, severance pays, etc etc etc. KQ style.

Mumias will have troubles it seem. Listening to that fellow, he is saying that its a lie they are not retrenching 400 people, but they only need 1,000 employees of the current 1,900.

Sema double speak. Or he meant, we are sacking 900, not 400?

@dunkang called it. A sober piece of journalism:

Trouble in Mumias Sugar as workers threaten to sue over restructuring
Read more at: http://www.standardmedia...-sue-over-restructuring

The company probably should be thrown under the bus altogether. The stakeholders involved, solutions proposed; it could take a miracle.

Those employees are not exactly thinking beyond the shock of loosing a job. They should be pushing for a competitive package else they could in the longer run end up with nothing kighafla ala pan paper employees. Lakini this sugar issue should be put in the referendum pia. A whole society is being impoverished hivi hivi tukiona through warped policy.

Its got nothing to do with KANU just plain laxity and incompetence by management.

All this talk of sugar is dead yet the products are on the shelves, with a ready market is getting a bit frustrating. The question is when will the government do something about it, time is running out.

Relying on the government is a folly in of itself.

Problem in India is price control by the government, as per the article (remember Kenya Energy Sector).

GoK and GoI want mills to pay a minimum for the sugarcane. And it just adds up...

It would be quite reckless if the millers expected anything on a silver platter, for any government if you operate, expect to pay and that should be factored into any budget that they make.

[quote=Cde Monomotapa]@Realtreaty Came across some interesting material on Sugar beets. This is by Brit farmers & millers.

Beets have their own dynamics. Very interesting

Video: Sugar beet campaign under way for 2014 http://www.fwi.co.uk/art...-under-way-for-2014.htm

http://www.fwi.co.uk/art...ace-hefty-price-cut.htm

Also, seems to be a concern of glut by the bigger/global millers, looking to cut production. Points to higher sugar futures going forward.
