Then this: Kenya offers amends over teenage tourist terror mix-up

An American family has been offered an all-expenses-paid trip to Kenya after their vacation was ruined by a policeman who mistook their 15-year-old daughter for an international terrorist.

A statement from the Kenyan government said the teenage holidaymaker was "harassed by police in Mlolongo", outside the capital Nairobi, "on accusations of looking like" British fugitive Samantha Lewthwaite.

It said Kenya's interior minister, Joseph Ole Lenku, had announced that "the government will sponsor a fully-paid holiday for the family" as compensation and that police were also investigating the incident.

I thought Samantha is a mother of many kids or who is a teenager?
What will it take to have a police force operating on intelligence and national good than individualistic macho acts?Sad Sad

Don't blame the cop. Many 15yr olds huko mayuu look like 30yr+ mothers due to diet ya burgers and pizza. Anyway, samantha doesn't look that old as you can see from her ID.

This narration largely ties with the account I gave here after the whole sad affair. The only new thing is more CCTV footage of the victims and their narrations.

Recce's role has been in my view downplayed here if you look at the time gaps.

KDF infantry decisions and acts of looting remain the biggest embarrassment to the state in this Westgate incident.

Gen Karangi is (being) retired next year. Gichangi has since gone and Kimemia demoted. The head of the Kenyan Military intelligence credited with top success in infiltrating Al Shabaab has since been made NIS boss. Al Shabaab top leadership wiped out and their remaining bases attacked by AMISOM. The bill to hand NIS more powers to arrest is being mooted and about to be discussed in the legislature..

From the documentary Recce actually seemed quite professional (though very late to enter) compared to KDF. In fact if KDF had not entered maybe they would've killed/captured the terrorists without destroying the mall.
In a place where thought is abandoned, freedom can become a curse.

The documentary avoided touching much on the official security teams responses... hence leaving out much of what RECCE did.

If you go through photos/stories from last year, you will notice that RECCE went in much earlier and there are some photos of RECCE squad ushering people from the Cinema halls down the stairs.
The actions of Haji and Co actually helped corner the terrorists at Nakumatt, who later went up to the storage area. Recce had by then began a floor by floor sweep of the area, pinning their location to the Nakumatt storage area.... where KDF started coming in sijui, but they came in after RECCE and messed it up.

There were even Israeilis and Americans on ready but when KDF brought Kichwa, they just left....

Brings me to some speculation McReggea had insinuated earlier. Did some people take advantage of the sieke to ensure the boss avoided some international obligations? bearing in mind immediate family would have been affected... and a relation did actually end up dead?

Could Ole Lenku have known all was done by Saturday night and just agreed to act a fool, giving us sensational statements of mattresses and outrageous numbers of terrorists?

The KDF also saved many lives but unfortunately this has been left out deliberately to paint them in bad light.

Without a doubt, the civilian gun holders looked more professional and better organized than KDF.

Those were civilians plus cops in civilian clothes. I was very happy to see on that HBO video that this cop survived after being shot.

Even the police saved many lives but somehow the "HBO CCTVs never captured this". I heard them say on that video that the police were 'nowhere to be seen'. Just more propaganda.
