In March 2013 Obado of People's Democratic Party was declared the winner after he received 123,821 votes against Edward Oyugi's of ODM with 123,658.

Anyway i know the dynamics of the area better than you and why Oyugi lost. Even my MP is from FORD Kenya!

Finally you got it though Oyugi's was a pact with ODM/Machage for senetor (with hopes of him to deliver the Kuria votes to ODM) and that is where the bitterness comes from. By the way initially Machage used to be treated the same but he is very cunning, good orator, knows how to please his audiences etc and that makes him get away with it!

So the kuria never honored their part of the pre-election MOU. They elected Machage but refused to vote for Oyugi choosing to go for Obado who had a kuria running mate. Anyway that was immoral and a betrayal. No wonder the people are angry.

One thing i like about luos is that they are forthright in their dealings and respect all political agreements that they get into. I am sure they voted for Machage and ignored all his luo opponents because that is what they had promised to do. Just like in 2002 when they voted for kifaki and ignored Orengo because they respected the MOU. Too bad that the kuria didn't keep their part of bargain and betrayed our brothers from the lake.

That said Prof Oyugi must have been quite unpopular if he couldn't win even after being handed the ODM nomination certificate - and in Migori of all the places which is a hot bed for baba fanatics, a place where you find the most fanatical ODM supporters (remember 2007 election protests began in migori before reaching kisumu days later!).

(NB Just googled and saw that Machage floored Oluoch kanindo, Ating'a and Tom ogenga to clinch the senate seat.)
