I am also thinking 25 years is if we do copy paste.. and that is after we sort out our greed and just decide to be implementation zombies forgetting a change in attitude, Educations research and Dev. ala some oil rich countries.

If Kenyans were all moved to California... the state would be back to Kenya in 25 years.

We need more than 25years to solve our problem. lets go back to basics.

We Africans are indeed pathetic. Take Kenya for example. We are obsessed with voting for a member of our own ethnic group. Then once elected we defend him to the hilt no matter how incompetent or corrupt. We only complain when the president becomes a member of a different ethnic group.

In Kenya we have had presidents who are murderous, stifle democracy, grab land, raid public coffers, fail to combat corruption and insecurity and sometimes even encourage insecurity. But they can always count on support from their ethnic group.

This kinda behavior is relatively absent from the western world where leaders are more likely to be held accountable.

Kenya right now is being held back by corruption perceptions, crime and insecurity which leads to high unemployment. An incumbent should be held accountable for addressing these issues.

But Kenyans will not. They are easily swayed by calls to ethnicity. Even when they get mugged, carjacked and beaten by unemployed youth on the way home, they will still vote on tribal basis instead of holding leaders accountable for unemployment and insecurity.

The day when Africans put aside tribalism, sycophancy and divisiveness and start holding leaders accountable for pressing issues is the day Africa really moves forward.

Consumerism, wasteful use of dwindling resources, pollution, energy problems and inadequate investment in research and development is the reality manifested by our minds.

We are thinking about peers, standards, developments and value propositions while neglecting resources, energy and the available technology. What are we going to produce, transport, sell and develop?

it's the same thing that happens at a local level. a guy is poor... he starts living in a 1 room apartment. he is prudent with his income... starts a kiosk.. buys a ma3... pole pole the guy 'increases'. Do that at a national level and you will have solved the problem. prudent use of our resources. leveraging whatever we have. using our people... it's fine to dream but those dreams are not achieved while dreaming.

It seems you missed the point.Where will the resources, products and fuel for the apartment, kiosk and ma3 come from considering the available technology?

i just gave an example of a typical rags to riches story... where they come from varies. its all about prudent management of what you have... cutting your coat according to your clothe e.t.c. we know the drill.

I guess we are all on the same page on this sio? We all want our kids to live better lives, we all want to live fairly peaceful lives bila thugs knocking at your door or stealing your cars when you go run marathons. we want good hospital services for us and our children. We want transport systems that get you from A to B cheaply and without problems. We want our children to have meaningful education that will enable them to provide and build/sustain a society that does all that have been mentioned above -sio?

my angle... let's do a CAUSE ---> EFFECT map. We are doing A because the effect is B! demonstrated... you buy a house so that u don't need to pay rent (where you don't own squat even after 10 years of rent) but rather pay morgage (buying your house one month at a time) - makes sense right? That is what I want! draw a path between age of 'leaders' and the future we all want.... not some obscure and incomplete mathematics on ages and mapping that to the west. Heck who said we are 25 years behind the west? What is the gauge? Have we gone to the moon? they did that over 40 years ago.... do we have nukes? they did that over 50 years ago... they are using smart phones... we are also using smartphones like them.... problems zetu ni mingi let's fix real problems and leave imaginary ones to philosophers like tycho

c'mon masukuma, most if not all of these achievements have to be measured per the best there is out there, therefore you cannot ignore the west/East. For example you mention good hospitals? what is good hospitals? when I walk into the hospital with any ailment, I expect the doctors there to have adequate knowledge and equipment to diagnose appropriately and treat it. Who currently make and have best equipment? is that aping? We cannot stick in the past while new more efficient and effective solutions are available. We should actually take those and improve them further without re-inventing the wheel...

To be honest we are more than 100 years behind, Economically maybe 80 years behind, education wise 150 years behind and polically maybe around 50 years. Most of kenya problems are politically linked and mostly leans on bad opposition, i mean opposing without reason or offering solutions. The is no need for someone who holds a PHD to be in polics. That Phd should be used for researches.

'aping' is cultural, norms, worldview like. complete rejection of western inventions, education to rebuild your own is madness.

@masukuma, what exactly are you prescribing for the African and how is this prescription to be effected?

Its hard to know what Masukuma wants.

It seems he has good intentions but no way to implement his good intentions in a manner that preserves his good intentions.

To me he is complicated.
