i read an article on the business daily about the laws that CMA is putting in place in preparation for the introduction of trading in REITs(Real Estate Investment Trust)at the NSE. the writer was concerned that the normal tax benefits that normally come with trading in this instruments were not factored in the law. further she expressed disappointment at the high barrier that the law places on listing by independent property developer.
Can anyone provide information on this instrument?

You could check out the draft legislation on the CMA website. It may help.

@Redondo,The good news is that their is an action-plan in place with regard to legislation and regularization of our imperfect real estate industry so as to aid in REITs trading at the NSE before year end.

Standard Investment Bank has teamed up with a leading real estate firm in a syndication bid and have formidable prospects of effecting the first trade this year. They listed information assymetry and lack of adequate legislation as the major stumbling blocks in their endeavour.
