Matatu Welfare Association have declared a 3day strike from tomorrow. They are protesting police harassment.

I found them distributing leaflets at various termini today.Though there is a split btn MOA and MWA,signs are pointing to a big crippling strike kesho.

Isn't it time the state got involved more in public transport alongside other public services? The matatu industry, now a menace is a big arena of crime and tax evasion. It's uncontrollable with many rowdy gangs.

I think the gvt should strongly consider bringing back Publicly owned buses that will be predictable n reliable than what we have now...In the meantime, since I've confirmed that my route will be joining the strike, am counting it as an extension to my XMAS break.NALALA MPAKA 8AM KESHO!

No. The government needs to be serious with corruption. A cousin of mine told me that they cough upto Shs. 1000/- a day to the police per vehicle. Considering what the criminal gangs also extort, who are you running the business for?

I saw a clip on KTN once for a kikuyu town bound matatu that had been arrested. The driver was furious about his arrest claiming that the vehicle, himself and the tout had met all the requirements to be legally on the road. That was not enough to avoid an arrest. If no changes are announced, I see these strikes being more regular. You cannot run a business for others who have not put a penny in it but just have authority to prosecute.

So it is true that it is personal cars (not PSVs) that cause the traffic gridlock. It transpires that a good number of folks have been actually leaving their cars (not necessarily jalopies) at home and using mats. Maybe they sue their cars on weekends. Now that they had no chocie, they have brought out their vehicles thus contributing to the traffic nightmare that the rush hour now is.

BTW, why do we call it rush hour when none of us is actually rushing since we are stuck?!
