Running for office is not a science that can be quantified. It's an art with very many variables/dependencies, key being, are you running in a 'safe' constituency for your party?
If in a safe constituency, the campaign funds are incurred in the donations to the party in order to bag the nomination. This is an auction as your donation needs to be bigger than the other guy's
If in a so so constituency, you need to appeal to the electorate, which should start three years to the election. Budget an expenditure of ksh 500k each month for water projects, burial donations, school fees, churches construction, women's chamas etc. This is cash going to donations, separate from your costs, which include transport, youth wingers, opinion shapers etc.
When the election campaign period starts, depending on the constituency terrain, anything between ksh 10m and 30m (at 2003 election prices) will be needed for banners, t-shirts, sugar, campaign managers, polling station monitors etc.
You need a good finance manager and an even better chief campaigner for success.
