I made a terrible mistake in believing the Weather men when they said El Nino rainfall, eh, floods would hit us this year.

I invested heavly in rainfed rice growing. Now I have to change to irrigation tomatoes with a big hole in my budget. Am I moaning alone?

Liar

....farming as an enterprise in Kenya will only become rewarding if the govt subsidises imputs and/or guarantees farmers some minimum market price whatever the weather.

....almost all the food sufficient nations do it.

...I have my experiance with wheat and aint good.Sad

Hi all,

the food insuffiency in kenya will take a long long time indeed to curb...reasons:

...too many preditors in the field whose main intentions is to create an artificial shortage to prey on others and make millions.

...farm inputs too expensive due to the immoral tax regime and no let up by the taxman.

...it is now evident that rainfal cannot be relied on when it is required...at least the last 10 years have shown that.
...besides, the presence of a safe alone does not signify that there is money inside...

Even in the most developed countries, weather forecasting is hit or miss...

Lakini, those days before moi & his bastards decimated mau (among other forests), Nairobi was almost GUARANTEED to get rain around 15 April. And it used to get real cold.

I remember the 'fog' around Nairobi. I enjoyed it coz I would wear a sweater & enjoyed the 'warm' blanket at night.

I must be getting old!!!

Lol vvs, i too miss those days. I miss the sound of rain at night puting me to sleep, the lightening and thunder frightening the hell out of me and those flying termites "kumbi kumbi" that used to come out when it rained, poor things they must be really crowed in their digz now that it rarely rains!

The 'helicopters'... what is their real name? Where are they during the dry season?

@ vvs and kulchaz

That feels nostalgic. I hope with all the efforts on the environment we'll ever get there...

VVS they stay underground during the dry season. That is why you'll see luhyas hitting the ground to make them feel like it is raining then harvest them when they come.
