I look at the road and just laughed. The elevation of the road is below the immediate surrounding land, no culverts, no shoulders...
You cant even even compare the road to say Eastern bypass...
it looks like tarmac was spread on top of loom soil.

I think its better than nothing...tutakuwa papa hapa unless God calls us home...we will get to see how long the road will will last...Eating or no eating he is miles ahead as compared to other governor's ...quick one are counties allowed to invest their cash like in other jurisdictions?e.g UK council's had invested in Iceland banks...

my thinking exactly! build roads like these.... in 3 months.... recarpet them in another 6-9 months.... recarpet them in another 6-9 months. People would have accruded the benefits of these roads many time over than waiting for the day we have thika road quality roads in their place. believe me the people using that route are happy with a substandard road today than an international quality road in 10 years.

@ masukuma

From the little economics that i know, a service is not economically viable if the maintenance costs are on the extreme side in the short to medium term...eg build a road for khs 650m and spend ksh 150m annually on maintenance..Yes! No!

Potato Potaeto Tomato Tomaeto. All this noise is horrendous.

How about the fact that that tarmac road has been an election promise for as long as Kenya has been independent?

How about the fact that for once Machakos residents will use a road without having to pull their cars and buses from the mud when it rains?

That is all the people of Machakos see. The road Mutua built for them. You sitting in Nairobi criticising that wont matter a hoot to them. Or you will take a Machakos vote to go vote him out?

We dont want Machakos residents to be left with eyesore "development" 1 year later...we should build roads for posterity!
The money used on those supposedly streets lights and cameras should have been used to build a more standard road; a world class road and not a village foot path!

no we build roads for our use... ugali ya leo makes you get to eat ugali ya kesho. ask yourself - what is the alternative? if you lived somewhere on that road... which option would you take? A very good road that comes with vision 2030 or this one TODAY! considering people had been promising you this road for 50 years -I know which i would take!

Haya, the people of Machakos did not have even "blind development" before this(for 50 years). This village footpath you are talking about,it has tarmac right? It has street lighting, right? Then let me say it is the most advanced village footoath in Africa. The people of Machakos are proud of their new advanced village footpath.

The odd thing is that before the road was built nobody bothered to ask why not. Now that is has been built everyone is busy asking why.

1. On street lights on the entire 33km strech, that is wastage!

2. On cameras along the entire 33km stretch, that is even more laughable!

3. On the design of the road, i can't comment until i go through the entire route, which i highly doubt you did.

Take note, the road in question is the C100 (from google earth). It joins the A3 (Thika-Garissa-Liboi Road) and the C97(Kyumvi-Machakos-Kitui Road).

Also, this is not a new road. NO. It existed but not to TARMACKED! So, most probably, the stormwater drainage system was in place. How many murram roads do you see around you with culverts etc but not tarmacked!

On the issue of road been lower than the surrounding area, that exactly proves that you are just an armchair "analyst". In road designs, there are things called, ROAD GEOMETRICS, vertical and horizontal! and involve both cuts and fills!

First Class Engineering indeed!

People are so wired to criticise that they cannot see that all the above was acheived with KShs 600m and not the Kshs 1.6bn the GoK was proposing. Would y'all haters have preferred that Mutua goes to sleep like your Governor? Nkt

'Criticizing' isn't hating. And there's always need and room for improvement, and perfection. As such it's better to be criticized than praised.

@masukuma here i agree with you totally. Imagine waiting for the road to be tarmacked in 2030 to last for 10 years and now for 3 years ... now any day any time

@Marko .. brilliant guys are now all over ati why barely 1 month to doing the road whereas it has been why not for over 50 years and nobody raised a voice. Surely the choices (without consequences) here is sooooooooo straight forward!

KES. 600 million is pocket change for you for a road that will not survive the short rain season due in the next 3 months?
