Who The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (alternatively translated as Islamic State in Iraq and Syria or Islamic State in Iraq and al-Shām) are - according to ISIS.

Not for the faint hearted.

There are 10,000 suspected ISIS militants operating on territory captured in Syria and Iraq. Those buying oil from the oil refinery/wells in Northern Syria run by ISIS are doing the world a huge disservice.

An estimated 3,000 foreign fighters. Britain has banned ISIS and made membership to it a criminal offence. 300 Brits fighting for ISIS. The threat these terrorists pose on returning home as recruiters/sleepr cells is quite real.

ISIS has nothing to do with the Egyptian pagan goddess!

Its a Western made abbreviation....

ISIS = Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine!

The US previously fought these militants during their last invasion of Iraq in the famous seige and battle for Fallujah.

In Syria, the US was largely propping the FSA opposition group. It's unclear how much aid from the allies and other middle eastern backers got to ISIS.

Once ISIS got fully involved in fighting Assads forces, the opposition forces realised ISIS had a different agenda and were committing atrocities. ISIS started fighting both Assad and other opposition groups.

President Assads previous claim that the govt was fighting terrorists turned out to be prophetic..

To defeat ISIS, the US may need to partner with the Iraqi government (without Maliki), Syria (newly elected Assad) and Iran.

ex-President's Bush 'axis of evil' may be US best bet!

I told you the Shiites would unite with the Americans and Israel against "terror"... Prophecy is coming true!

ISIS is what emerged after Al Qaeda in Iraq was crushed!

I wonder what will emerge next if ISIS is crushed! Pray

The people living in areas under ISIS seem to love them despite their "brutality" as portrayed by the Western media

@guru since we know Al Qaeda and Taliban was created by the US, is ISIS also a creation of US too?

A couple of things:
- ISIL did not 'emerge after Al Qaeda was crushed'. It was part of Al Qaeda and became a splinter group when Al Qaeda leadership distanced itself from the brutal tactics and objectives of ISIL.

- Have you watched the video by ISIL that I have posted at the genesis of this thread? They try legitimize and have videotaped kidnappings, mass executions, beheadings etc. These are not creations of the Western media.

- Which prophecy do you refer to? If the Koran by your understanding supports the acts of ISIL, then the Koran itself is a big problem.

@ecstacy you have a lot to learn..

ISIL emerged from a branch of Al Qaeda called Al Qaeda in Iraq... Al Qaeda in Iraq was crushed..

Trust me... ISIS is brutal but they are just according to the people who live in the areas they control!

ISIS literally means throne where the pharaoh i.e. Horus(the son of ISIS) a god of war sits on.The Dajjal is one-eyed like Horus and is supposed to appear somewhere between Iraq and Syria spreading mischief. So ISIS may signal the return of the Khilafah but not preparing the way for the Dajjal?

You've already said the abbreviation is Western made.Like @AlphDoti has asked is ISIS a creation of the US(you know where that leads) or it has become a conspiracy theory because a different prophecy may be at play?

Let us just agree to disagree on some things.

With the exit of the American forces the Iraqi tribal militias that gave Al Qaeda strength did not have a Jihadist cause and the foreign fighters found a new cause in Syria when Assad brutally responded to demonstrations.

FYI, the Kurds are successfully holding of ISIL. That justice you talk is people who know ISIL is media savvy and are using media recordings to execute civilians.

Shia dominated areas do not want that justice you refer to. ISIL is bent on killing as many Shia people as possible. What justice is that?

ISIL will not take Baghdad. Shia men are ready to fight to the death unlike the previous Iraqi military units in Mosul.

This video capture Syria's opposition group FSA and ISIL fighters trading insults over a 2-way radio during their in-fighting at Aleppo in Syria. Everyone thinks the other is an "apostate" or "swine" lol
