 The uvula is of course the little piece of flesh that hangs down from the rear portion of the soft palate. It is formed during development as the last step of fusion of the two halves of the soft palate, as it "zips up" from front to back.
 A friend told me that his daughter was suffering from constant coughs, Anorexia, sickly episodes etc and took her to various hospitals including Nairobi Hospital, KNH etc leaving a trail of financial massacre on his side in excess of Ksh 120,000. Eventually, he took her to a local herbalist who cut out the Uvula (Kirimi or Small hanging tongue) using a split razor on a bic tube etc for only Ksh 500. She is hardly four and after eating dried bread, hard solid porridge, etc, she is now up and running with no coughing or anorexia and is growing big and strong.
 Some activist lady is threatening to take the father to court for Female Oral Mutilation. Am at a loss for words on the Uvula issue. So many people I know have had the operation. Please share your experiences here so that I can fight for the right cause.

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases;
It will never pass into nothingness;
But still will keep a bower quiet for us,
and a sleep full of sweet dreams,
and health, and quiet breathing. - Keats

@pretty,
My sis-in-law had a similar problem.Laughing alone would make her puke.She'd been to many doctors until someone came up with the Kirimi issue.It was "removed" by a back street doc and problem was solved.I did seek the opinion of a knowledged doc and the fellow laughed his silly head off.To date,i can't tell if it's real or myth.....BTW,kirimi is not confined to females only.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

@ Pretty

Why the use of the word "Female"? There is FGM and now you are telling us about FOM. Where is the comparison or similarity between the two?

at first i thought it is something to do with kissing...

anyway, it is a common thing but modern doctors prohibit cutting it instead they administer injections...

in some communities they still do the cutting and i hear that it is the best solution...

as for those championing litigation tell them to dare if they or their parents were not mutilated...
When you hear what I say, you will not understand. When you see what I do, you will not comprehend

At first i thought this has something to do with FGM..@Pretty,why the use of 'female'?Jameni!

Anyway,maybe it's a myth..maybe its real.I've never figured out the importance of that ka-tongue being cut,but mine was cut when i was just an year old,or so i hear. Everybody in our family has been cut that 'kirimi'. kwanza it's done by one ka-family who have been known to cut 'kirimi' generations,down to generations. Some old guys near a place called murinduko in shags. You hear grandma saying she plans to take a trip to Murinduko...unajua iko kamtu katalia. My grandparents,parents and relatives insist it reduces ones chances of being sick. Eti kwanza coughs,vomitting,lose of weight/appetite and wheezing.
