The new traffic lights at the city mortuary roundabout are a pain in the wrong places. Coming down Ngong road today and using Mbagathi road to go down, I could not help but notice the unusual heavy traffic buildup. The traffic was fine with the expanded roundabout. No traffic at all times. Why doesn't the City Engineer use his head?

Man, I wonder whether Kenya is the only country where Traffic lights don't work. My young son is giving me a hard time every time I jump red lights on Sunday.

I do not think these guys consider the variables.

1. They install lights using traffic data that is 6 years old
2. Beyond a certain load of traffic, the lights will not work irrespective of the formula employed
3. They ignore the fact that the exits have to be free

Who will take the City Engineer back to school.

BTW you can have a red light on throughout the day especially on sunday. I do not blame you for jumping the lighs.

I've had two accidents this year because of the lights. In both cases, our lights turned green and went for it. You know the way everyone always wants to jump there's even when the traffic lights are working.

In both cases, the cops said I was on the wrong. When they arrived, I said '...ameruka mataa' and they replied 'Hii mataa haifanyi kazi siku hizi' despite my protests. Life in Kenya.

Hmmm yeah those lights are confusing. I also was in the jam at city mortuary today. What was the deal with that? At ten! Anyway, I also find the lights too confusing. I get given a lot of stick when I jump lights, yet (like on Sunday), who knows whether they work.

I am very wary of traffic lights hence even if it is green just confirm that all is clear. I once took off on a green light at the Kenyatta Avenue roundabout heading to Valley Road not knowing that the light for vehicles approaching from University Way had also turned green - met with a lorry in the middle but luckily enough we both stopped at the right time.
