yesterday i saw a piece in citizen tv on the forth coming eviction along the mathare river and a guy with six children was being interviewed about the impact of the eviction.

six children living in a shack how can this happen.the guy pays rent of about 250/= in 50/=instalment. now i was wondering how does this guy take care of the six children in Nairobi.

I think a Law should be put in Place to cap the no. of children one should have against the income or living standard he will be subjecting them to

This should be a constituitional issue. The right to have many children should be taken away. I am passionate about population control. Even guys in the medical services dealing with public health are alarmed. The poor are just popping out kids. This has to stop.

it is a case of too much sex..sex should be regulated and reduced to once per week..
population control should be revived..

as njung'e says people are too idle..those working extra hard rarely get time for sex..with daily traffic jams, one is forced to arise early, and arrive home late and worn out..sex is out of the question in such circumstances..

so government should ensure economy improves so that majority will be busy..

some local potent brews are known to kick the urge to have sex out of one's life for good..

The large family sizes in poor people is multifactorial and is not as simple joblessness leads to more sex. The number of time is people have sex is more or less equal across all strata of society.
Women who are poor have less say on there reproductive health issue therefore can't take pills or demand for condom etc because they are either disempowered, cant afford contraceptives, or they just dont know.
Birth control is important but people have to resist the temptation to blame poor people with big families.
New farer birth control measures have never been stopped ever they were probably scaled down cause bush stopped USAID funded birth control measures thats why things like norplant dissappeared etc but the goverment has a small budget for education, birth control etc etc!!

I think the Govt should make contraceptives free in all govt clinics and hospitals, and educate women even in 'mashinani' on the need to control their families and not reproduce ovyo ovyo. Such campaings have worked well with immunization and ARV's so am sure they'd work with contraceptives too. Educate and make them accessible to all. Btw,it's not like some of these contraceptives are expensive anyway...the pills are available in govt clinics for i think 20bob or free after you buy the card at 20bob, but all the other methods you have to cough up some cash. there're too many myths surrounding birth control, and the mashinana woman prefers to stay away and pop kids until coz she's not informed, thus doesnt know any better.

@Leona,
And if the government feels contraceptives are expensive,it should allow duty free kerosene.

Over population is a myth!!! Think ! Guys are dying daily of AIDS holocaust. Say no to contraceptives, if you must tumia natural method

We just need to leverage our numbers...Look at china/india with their mindsboggling population and yet are set to become the next super powers

The overpopulation myth is peddled by scarcity mongers

>> Its the rate of economic development that should be enhanced to match population growth. This will ensure that every newborn is assured of an employment opportunity. Population should be viewed as a labour resource not an impendiment to growth.
