Initially the group's spokeswoman here said they normally don't take responsibility for attacks and she was adamant!! Then came the tweet that it wasn't them. Now after people started asking questions they conveniently remembered they have a twitter account.
Still we would rather believe a tweet posted on the BBC website rather than eye witness accounts that raise questions. ISORAIT, Wacha ikue Alshabaab, we will all feel better if its them.

Shariff Mrenge, a witness, told The Standard yesterday that he saw about 50 heavily armed youths with flags associated with Al Shaabab shooting indiscriminately. He claims he was in his house when the attack began and was able to pick out images clearly before electricity was knocked out when the attackers blew up power lines.

When I heard the first shot I went to the rooftop where I saw the men with black Al Shaabab flags. They put people together and started shooting at them while chanting Allah Wakbar (God is great),” said Mrenge. He said the attackers told the families of the victims that “tell your father to remove soldiers from Somali.” Other witnesses said the attackers spoke with a Somali accent but local political leaders have said they have information that some of the attackers were not Somali. “The initial information we have is that all the attackers were all of Somali origin but it has since emerged that they were mixed with non-Somali,” said Mugo.

1. In terms of ideology, it is a fact that Mupeketoni was linked to Al-Shabaab: islamic chants, somali origin, wanton destruction, reference to KDF, claiming responsibility.

2. In terms of orchestration, if there was good planning, some local help may have participated.

3. But what of motive?
• There appears in the president's speech an attempt to address the Saba saba riots and Mpeketoni in the same breath, grouping both as reckless readers. In my opinion, this was political on his part.
• Al-Shabaab statements referred to 'muslim lands' implying eviction.
• Realise Somali agenda is political anyway, but what could CORD really gain by such brutal action? They already had the country-wide rally momentum anyway.

Based on Mutahi Ngunyi, the attack then was by radicalized and non-core militia, with Al-Shabaab ideology under their comission.

Yesterday’s ‘statement from baab’ claimed the attackers had completed their mission and were now safely back in Somalia. Why did the attacks continue yesterday night if ‘baab were already back in somalia?

It gives them some form of eargasm that completely disorients them.

Someone will one day explain to me how you fire an OCS, County Commander et al for not stopping 50 bazooka terrorists. Then leave the fellows who have admitted that

1. They had intelligence before hand
2. Did not respond on the said day
3. Were actually sleeping in the same area when another 15 people were killed.

You know, sometimes in life its a good thing to notice that your car tyre is flat. So that you can fix it.

Tired of statements that go around in circles.

All we want is those responsible in court. Not long stories.

All the world intelligence services say it was Al Shabab, even the victims. Even Al-shabab. But ooohhhhh no, we know who did it and we are drawing the biggest red line yet.

Politics and security don't work well together. I'm hugely disappointed.
