That's probably because the match was being screened in another channel. Hata DSTV hakuna any WC match which will be screened on the KBC channel.....something about broadcasting rights!

This will probably explain what happened last night

"A consumer body has accused Chinese pay-TV provider StarTimes of hijacking a Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) signal to air the FIFA football world cup in Brazil. This after public broadcaster KBC, which has digital and analogue channels, suddenly stopped broadcasting the opening game of the tournament between Brazil and Croatia on Thursday night. KBC subsequently directed its viewers to access the world cup matches via other digital or even analogue channels to watch the match. StarTimes’ broadcast of the world cup opening game; though, continued.

And the Consumers Federation of Kenya (Cofek) is alleging foul play.

“The ICT geniuses that are Chinese managed to beat KBC at its own game after devising a way of picking the analogue signal and passing it off as if it was a digital signal, Yet KBC had already blocked them on DDT (digital) platform" alleges COFEK

@TAZ

I thought Cofek is fighting for the consumers but apparently they are advocating for the KBC's Broadcasting rights???

Kenyans were forced to buy digital scrap then KTN, NTV, Citicen pulls off their signal on digital platform

KBC is following suit and telling Kenyans they are on their own. That they can only be found in the analogue clouds???

The problem is clear.

Startimes and Zuku, like many Kenyan businesses, are good at collecting monthly payments, while skiving on legitimately paying for the programs. This is what COFEK should be pursuing instead of disturbing Equity MVNO - or is that another Linturi affair?

TBC (Tanzania), TVM1 (Mozambique) are some of the Free To Air channels showing World cup. They are available freely via Intelsat 906 satellite.

I wonder whether the issue that TV rights have a territory defined. Thus for Kenya, KBC is exclusive license holder and anyone broadcasting the content must have spoken to them in financial language.

Individuals have freedom. Meanwhile... cheers and jeers
