Brazil starting badly means they will reach the final. Best Brazilian sides never won since 1970. The 1982 and 1986 sides played charming football yet it is the rather boring squads of the 'Dunga era'that won. Truth forever on the scaffold Wrong forever on the throne (James Russell Rowell)

Day time opening ceremonies can never match night time ones, like Olympics for example - let's hope for a better closing ceremony. SA was way better on all counts. The sound was terrible on this one. Brazil's game did not flow, credit to Croatia for keeping them at bay. The dubious penalty changed the whole game, Fred was just slightly tugged and was already slipping before that...he made a meal of it and the ref swallowed hook, line and sinker...that's the problem with weak refs succumbing to the pressure of the home team fans cries - where's Collina when you need him??? Still don't know why FIFA can't have the 4th official watching an instant video replay and relaying the verdict, takes 30 seconds like ruge! Fred and Hulk were clueless, never rated the latter at all, even when he was the shining at Porto. Oscar was without a doubt the man of the match; clearly BPL and Mourinho's tactics have hardened him. Gustavo was okay but I feel Fernandinho adds another dimension with his darting runs. Willian and Ramirez have to be saved as pacey subs when required. Brazil was poor but Spain was worse on their way to win the trophy in 2010 so I wouldn't judge Brazil by this game - some of these teams get better as the tournament progresses. Looks like it may be Neymwar's WC judging by the start, despite being assisted by Referinho... If Cameroon can get a result against Mexico today it will put them in a good position. But the match of the day is definitely Spain vs The Dutch BEER IS LIVING PROOF THAT GOD LOVES US AND WANTS US TO BE HAPPY!

There is the psychological advantage of thrashing them 3 nil last June with nearly identical teams for both sides. Netherlands? Not convinced. Sid Lowe's perspective on Spain's lack of a "defined" striker... http://www.espnfc.com/fi...ls-no-cause-for-concern
For me it's a 50-50 match - I expect a draw but after what we saw last night, a ref can change the entire match with a single decision. BEER IS LIVING PROOF THAT GOD LOVES US AND WANTS US TO BE HAPPY!

My biggest disappointment with the opening game was the home crowd booing the croats and the brazilian coach waving cards at the ref.

@kratos, hakuna spain na belgium in the semis? While spain are touted as favourites my crystal balls tell me they will fall dramatically at the quarterfinal stage. Each world cup has to have a "big team" falling. How about that for a prediction!!!! Boss, that was amazing! But I guess you thought he would put the ball in the opponent's net Hmmmmm my "crystal balls" didn't indicate which side he would score for, but my prediction still stands as Marcelo from Brasil scored the first goal in the 2014 world cup Imagine if i had put money into the bet what would have been the odds! you shuold have made some serious cash. All the same the restraint helped pacify hostility between the two teams Viva Brazil The goalie was Mpeswad He could have prevented all three. However, i feel, other than for the goals conceded, he had done pretty well. Sad, we only remember the goals, effort out through the window. I concur. That keeper was good. He got the direction for all three. Neymar's penalty wasn't well taken though
