I wish Kimaiyo's enthusiasm RE policing political activities was matched by similar enthusiasm on policing and preventing terror.

Given decades of decay, the weapons and attackers are amidst us.

The General security advise as KDF resume offensive operations in Somalia and real solutions are sought back home by an ill equipped, ill trained and thoroughly strained security force is as much as you can: "Avoid crowded places"

CORD solution: Welcome "bash" for "Baba" for "2 million" people at an open venue at Uhuru Park.

Haiya, enda karuke ruke hurling matusi and chanting mapambano in the name of "Baba".

I only hope one day we can have some maturity in politics.

This is one situation where we do need some maturity from all the politicians.

Kimaiyo banning rallies then unbanning them then banning the ones close to certain areas just smacks of politics.

But

What if the fellow just has poor communication skills. I don't think we need more evidence of that.

It's time for politicians to talk to security agents on such matters. Both parties should reach out to each other and figure out a way for a win win situation.

No one wants to see people hurt. At the same time no one wants the IG to be banning things every week.

The time to talk is now. The IG shares what he knows, the politicians figure out how to still win without putting people at risk.

This jumping on others throats and hubris is what got Kenyans bombed in the first place.

So as a country should we resign to fate because the police can't protect it's citizens? There is no reason for splitting hair here. Let wana CORD welcome their Baba and the rest head for celebration at Nyayo Stadium or attend to private affairs. We are one family with different beliefs system, political leanings etc, we cannot start wishing others to share our beliefs. Our difference in all aspects is what make us unique and we learn from each other.

@alma, you might not be aware but the problem here really is the fear that the 31st meeting will attract more people than the madaraka day celebrations! Otherwise if it's a matter of crowds then for security reasons Kimaiyo should suspend the 2014 madaraka day celebrations!!!

@McReggae that is also my fear. That its politically motivated. But what if it isn't? Are you willing to put at risk 1 life coz Kimaiyo is still looking for dainded fiekos.

It's my feeling that we are facing dark times ahead and everything needs to be perfect for the next few months for us to make it through.

We can't have politics of Kanu error all over again and expect to move ahead and secure the citizens.

In other countries, rallies are held anyway. But the security and the political parties talk and discuss what is going on.

Where the security decides that it will do what it wants, the politicians then get a big head, then we are going to have a problem on Saturday.

There is too much at risk in Kenya for people not to talk. The eurobond, tourism etc.

Roadside digital pronouncements on twirra should end. Roadside digital pronouncements on state defiance should also end.

The IG already has Kenyans baying for his blood. This is not the time to start putting himself on the defensive end, trying to explain things yet we all know his speaking skills are wanting and every time he explains something he leaves you more confused than you were before he spoke. A very easy solution would have been as follows:

1. Call the Jubilee and CORD leaders who were planning rallies for an "urgent" meeting at the Vigilance house(Ensure its a statement issued through a press release)

2. They may attend or they may not. If they do, tell them he has banned rallies due to "intelligence" reports indicating the rallies would be putting people in danger. He may or may not share the specifics with the leaders. If he is not willing to share, all he needs to say is that its sensitive info that is under investigation bla bla bla...

3. Ensure there is a press conference outside the vigilance house after the meeting and they should all be seen walking out of the meeting together. Inform the nation the reason of the meeting and that "I have explained to the political leaders the reason why we find it extremely dangerous to hold these rallies at this time."

The nation would be on his side. If the leaders goes ahead to call people for the rally, they would be seen as the careless type who are putting people in danger. He should then have a few people start online war against the leaders "who dont care about their people" bla bla bla...#SomeoneTellWanaSiasa would be made to trend...

I think what we need right now is a serious PR guy to manage communication and act a spin master in that security department. This guy needs to be so so smart in communication that he/she will end up convincing convincing people how safe the country is and how the security organs are on top of things? Why do I say this? Because security management is also a matter of perception. People need to feel that there is someone so much in-charge and watching...With such, the small guys who go around taking advantage of the clueless situation displayed by Kimaiyo would not dare. That would then leave the police dealing with the serious threats without being distracted by small timers.

Are the two occasions happening the same day? I thought one is on 31st and the other on 1st?
