Don't shoot the messenger.

In summary this Tanzanian author makes some points:

- Supporting foreign leagues benefits European economies at the expense of our local economies
- Supporting foreign leagues puts yet more money into the coffers of European teams thus increasing the gap between European football and African football
- Supporting foreign league amounts to a continuation of colonial rule by the Europeans
- It is the reason many of Africa’s former players are flat broke mitaani while their Euro counterpart retire to their beach front homes
- Supporting foreign leagues is the reason local teams find it impossible to find sponsorship. All the sponsors flock to be associated with European football
- Local newspapers give more space to European leagues
- Locals wear jerseys of the European teams thus putting yet more money into the coffers of European teams
- Africans now want to be known as Wazungu weusi

Zamani kidogo hali ilikuwa tofauti, watu wachache tu, tena wanaume, waliokuwa wakipoteza muda wao maridhawa kupigizana kelele kuhusu Soka.

let me repeat again, football in Kenya is dead so long as we have tribal clubs in the league. this teams should be restructured or abolished in favour of teams from Towns or counties.
Here rugby is fast becoming a spectator sport because all teams don't have that tribal affiliation . Any rugby meets attract huge crowds and sponsors.

I refuse. For starters, football attracts more sponsors than rugby. I support tribal clubs, it gives a sense of belonging. We will soon (naturally) evolve out of the tribe and begin relating with our towns, then the town model will take root - as it is today, my kids have no idea what tribe is about, so which tribe will they support?
Rugby is not popular due to lack of tribal affiliation. It is due to better organization and most importantly security. And FYI, the rugby of 20-30 years ago was very tribal, but has evolved naturally.
Organization is key - I'm waiting to see if Inter Milan will be locked in their hotel, courtesy of that goon.

@Gordon currently the only tribal clubs are gor and afc. Do you foresee a situating where the league allows the formation of the mugikuyu fc , mukamba fc, mumasai fc? Can you imagine the amount of chaos during matches. This might breed a whole new level of tribalism in this country. Bars and clubs where we go to watch matches will be reserved for certain tribes.
I said rugby is fast gaining popularity due to lack of tribal teams. apart from supersport which is struggling to support our football but other big sponsors have shyd away from the sport . Have a look at our popular derbies in football gor vs afc, this matches are usually without sponsors. but when it comes to rugby events sponsors line the pitch with their banners and billboards.

Rugby garners more sponsorship because it is run by trustworthy individuals whereas football is run by charlatans like Nyamweya.

In fact the KRFU is the best run sports organization in Kenya.

Still football is the crowd puller in Kenya. I understand Tusker are now pulling crowds of up to 5000 at their new home ground in Meru. These are the kind of crowds rugby can only dream of. The notion that rugby can compete with football is way bogus.

Speaking of tribal clubs, the Kenya football league was at the peak of its popularity in the 1970s when there were numerous tribal clubs and town based clubs.

This was the era of Luo Union, Maragoli FC, Abaluhya FC, GEMA, Feisal, Kisumu Hotstars, Nakuru All Stars, Abeingo, Nyanam, Lake Warriors.

The who country was glued to Kenya football league and scarcely anyone was worried about any European league.
