@Njung'e: Don't you dare miss today's matches!!! Pull up somewhere at the next pub and watch the boys win the cup this time. They are really psyched!!! I watched all y/day's matches and they were very entertaining. We are playing against Wales and my fingures are all crossed.

...just wondering on ranking...ARG has 68 points and KEN 60 coming into Scotland. If Arg works itself crazy in the bowl (like KEN did in England) it gets only 2 points,total 70. In the worst case scenario,what's is the min points Kenya can get if it just fools around from here?

Playing the stock market without insider info...is like buying a cow in the moonlight.

The glaring difference btn kenya players and all others in the series is just how skinny and weak our boys look.

Any team that brings physicality at the tackled ball area tends to beat us

@obi,the size department is one area Kenya has really worked on. If you remember the stars of the previous era - Jacko Omaido,Beth Omolo,Tom Oketch,they can't match our boys' size today (Paul Murunga is a wing! In those days he would have been prop material). We are also a lot more physical as weight training is an intergral part of the modern game program.
We have come a long way but my fear now is there is no next generation - these should be the current 1st/2nd years in campus - none has burst into the international scene. These are the guys who should be sitting on the side lines as shujaa play and will take over in another 3-4 years when akina Khayange retire,just like akina Khayange took over from Benja and Oscar Osir.
Anyway,great job Kenya,at least we will see you at the Safari Sevens!

@ Gordon & Obi. Good insight.

I think Kenya also needs to have a greater emphasis of development of rugby in the country. Kenya should learn from SA- they now hold the 15s and 7s aside trophies. This is a huge statement by SA in terms of rugby dominance. They say that success breeds success,so we can imagine how much rugby is being played today around SA.

Damu Pevu. Impala Floodlight,Safari Sevens all the tournaments that have been running in the past should be seen as stages for recognizing talent. In fact,I think its time to encourage wider participation in the rugby league in Kenya. Find ways of bringing in 4 or 5 more teams into the league. Corporate sponsorship is also key- EABL and Bamburi have had great success in the tournaments they support.

The sevens team has done us a lot of proud and we need to build from this,because,for sure,we CAN!

Talent has never been a problem for Rugby,I played high school rugby and I can assure you there is talent to burn at that level.

The problem is that after high school,unless one lives in Nairobi,all that talent goes to waste. The nyanza and western schools have some seriously athletic young men but have no access to after school rugby.

The good thing with Rugby is that its very well organised,the bosses are fairly sensible and were the game to attract a wider following,kenya could improve its stock.

Congratulations Benja and the boys awesome stuff...

Rugby has developed in leaps and bounds since having played in the under 23 sqaud when i finished high school..and i get nolstagic to see my former captains in Impala Benja and Oscar do us proud. First and foremost the govt needs to develop and financially support the game in the country as it is no longer and elite game as it was touted back then..

Our coaches need to attend the Rugby seminar courses held all the time in SA and develop their technical aspect of the game that was soley missed in the game against Wales and Last weekends game against Fiji. We kept on being sucked to the ball and Fiji kept on having an automatic 2 man overlap and they are a very fit side and we just could not cope. Wales broke us with their physical aspect and never allowed us to run the ball as that is our greatest strength and whenever they got the ball they kept on racking and this weared us down slowly and it was the same technic used last weekend just that time was on our side.

Nevertheless Kudos to our boys surely made us proud esp the win against England was in Edinburgh with my English colleagues and it was unbelievable.they too sat in the Kenyan stands...am still rubbing it in the office i have the official bragging rights now..

I think the RFU should seriously consider starting a Western - Nyanza rugby league to develop the players from Maseno,St Mary's Yala,Kakamega High,Musingu etc . For rugby lovers in Kenya,can some one approach the RFU with this idea? I sense a lot of interest from sponsors to get into rugby now that the sevens team is performing very well.
