If you ask me that move is naive and silly from a 50yr old president. If you are in the tourism industry, this is exactly the president you do not want. Build bridges and repair crumbling ones. We need these tourists badly. UK, USA and Australia issue security advisories even in their own land. They have clear guidelines on when and how to issue advisory they do not wait for the opposition and residents to go to the streets first....kwani he thinks the new markets to not read the travel advissories?

Their reasons are security. We need them yes, but what if they dont want to help us? What shall we do? How do we sort out our issues? How do salvage the millions of jobs currently depending on them? What if its more than security? What are our options?

A total paradigm shift is needed here. New markets? Are we over-dependent on specific countries? Even we go for other markets, what would make them change their minds from the reasons why they have not been coming in large numbers to them coming in large numbers? Could they cite the same reasons with those who are leaving? Our policy makers need to do something, urgently.

Washiku, now I can see you have a point! Thumbs up.

Washiku at al, paradigm shift is required of course, lest we all become irrelevant. But you see, those hyped chinese tourists are still not here yet and will not be here for a while. Dissing the west, while doing zero to deal with insecurity will get us nowhere, paradign shift or no paradigm shift.

We must address the core problem here, which even the 'shainese' will appreciate at one point. Get the idiots who are making our country unsafe and squeeze them where it hurts most till the cannot do this any more.

Is this too much to ask? May be it is...

So how many tourists have been attacked by terrorists to warrant evacuation? When the last tourist was attacked, Kenya sent it's army into somaliya to deal with the terrorists. Is there a better way of showing commitment to fighting terrorism targeting tourists? How many tourists board githurai buses and shop at gikomba to warrant the advisories?

And FYI the chinese tourists have been coming and the numbers are increasing every day. Visit any 5 star hotel and parks and you will you will notice they are more than the westerners.

@jaggernaut you may insist but it won't change the fact that The Chinese are a very straightforward people in how they relate with others: they look up to the West, so their kids school there, and they go there, they pay through the nose for their kids to speak English.
Why on earth would they come to Kenya as tourists, to do what? They want to see the big projects of civilized countries, the grand buildings, the trappings of history and advancement...Those guys have a very clear disdain for Africa and Africans, and it is only that we have all these resources

There are replicas of entire European neighbourhoods and towns in China http://images.businesswe...chitecture-a-photo-tour/

Talk to the tourists who know what Kenya has to offer and they will tell you they will always come irrespective of the travel advisories. There is nowhere else they will find the satisfaction that they get here.

Uhuru constantly flashing his middle finger at the west is costing Kenya dearly. Like it or not, Kenya needs the west. Its not just tourism. Kenya needs Europe as a market for some of its products. This Uhuru is driving Kenya's economy into a ditch. If he thinks Chinese tourists will start coming to Kenya in droves he is mistaken. To begin with there is the language barrier and a vast cultural barrier.

We keep wasting opportunities because of such pointless pride. No wonder Ethiopia passed Kenya as East Africa's largest economy. They do not participate in such nonsense.

We need them to make replicas of Africa also....

Maybe The Masai Mara, Gikomba Market, Mount Kenya Safari Club, Lamu, etc.

The big issue is that now that western tourists have been evacuated and told not to come what do we do? Weep and mourn and close our hotels ...... or look for alternative markets in the east? We went into somalia to make kenya safe for tourists, and now see the situation we are in.
