Our Cheese is moving away....

Their reasons are security. We need them yes, but what if they dont want to help us? What shall we do? How do we sort out our issues? How do salvage the millions of jobs currently depending on them? What if its more than security? What are our options?

A total paradigm shift is needed here. New markets? Are we over-dependent on specific countries? Even we go for other markets, what would make them change their minds from the reasons why they have not been coming in large numbers to them coming in large numbers? Could they cite the same reasons with those who are leaving? Our policy makers need to do something, urgently.

Attracting top dollar Chinese tourists is a pipe dream for almost all African countries.

The evidence is all over the net

That is one of the major issue the Chinese PM committed to do during recent visit to Kenya.

So what is Kenya supposed to do? Sit back and mourn the loss of western tourists OR market tourism to new markets eg china, korea, russia etc?

Washiku at al, paradigm shift is required of course, lest we all become irrelevant. But you see, those hyped chinese tourists are still not here yet and will not be here for a while. Dissing the west, while doing zero to deal with insecurity will get us nowhere, paradign shift or no paradigm shift.

We must address the core problem here, which even the 'shainese' will appreciate at one point. Get the idiots who are making our country unsafe and squeeze them where it hurts most till the cannot do this any more.

Is this too much to ask? May be it is...

In that same spirit, I wrote a small article sharing some of my ideas on some places we (yes you and me) can visit to help build our nation.

And I was bashed here a while back for asking us Kenyans to focus more on domestic tourism in that kenyan tourism in dire straits thread.

Boss are you aware of the situation on the ground?Tell someone who earns 10k try become a domestic tourist atakuchapa ngumi...No matter how hard we try domestic tourism cannot bridge the gap left by international tourists.

You do realize your comment in red is misplaced and misinformed. No idea if it still happens but a while back in L.Nakuru, KWS used to have the locals board their buses on Sundays and take them on a tour into the park. Anyone can be a tourist.

How much were they contributing to the Hotel and Catering Industry by boarding that bus?
If you stay ready, no need to get ready.

at least the hawkers got people to sell their wares to, the matatus/boda got more people to ferry from their homes to the collection points, they were not paid in dollars, but at least there was some benefit - better than if the place remained empty
