Lamentation indeed, short term, we all hope. However, trying to downplay China's growing influence in the world is an exercise in futility.

Like there is also a proposed rail that is to run from China, through Europe to the US.

Here, the PM talked of a Cape to Cairo rail, of course with the cross shoots - like the SGR.

I think a better definition of friendship is where one (with greater power) levers the other to better themselves, to the overall betterment of the Whole. i.e http://news.xinhuanet.co...4-05/18/c_133342725.htm

The beggar thy neighbor syndrome is some historical thinking IMO.

Tanzania is about to be announced the biggest e.africas economy, with their politics being more stable and a neutral stand btw the east and west but friendly more to west, they can only overtake kenya, what our leaders failed to look is where our money comes from, china will ruin us as they are the only beneficiaries with loan interests, counterfeit goods dumping to kenya and fat contracts, what kenya can export to china is may be dogs.

Not sure to what extent this agrees, but I note for the first time in aeons, Aly-Khan Satchu's article showed a vein of worry...

He talks of red-signals on Kenya's dashboard:
- Advisories and hasty departure of UK tourists
- US ambassador's new request for security assets
- Reduction of US embassy overall footprint
- Tourism on its knees; Msa recession evident

Everybody is flirting with China..Angola,SA,Nigeria,TZ,KE.

The difference is how you do it.In KE,the approach is abrassive..Trust me much as China is growing, you cant rule the West as of yet.KE leadership needs to play it smart like the other African countries

That's true @metasploit. Where is KE w/o the West. We're still pro-West on a lot of fronts. To the extent of committing suicide over the EPL smile, but that doesn't mean we can't think for ourselves either. No.

When SA was reviewing its foreign policy to a more pro-East, South-South stance, Europe wasn't happy either. Unajua tu...Innovate/Evolve or die.

Let's also be frank. Like Apple being designed in Cali but made in China/East. What does that tell us? Now the manufacturers want to move to Africa, for the same reasons they moved from the West. Like those apparel companies looking to setup at our EPZ.

Let's see.

Agreed 100%.

My opinion is for African countries to be completely independent.Chinese, like the West, are also opportunists.

Africa has alot of potential. We just need to put our shit together, increase trade among ourselves and play it smart with both the west and east.Of course more inclination towards the east but diplomatically.Eventually we should be able to stand on our own.

You should get this book (Economic Warfare: Sanctions, Embargo Busting, and Their Human Cost by R. Thomas Naylor)

Most of the happenings in the world (read Egypt,Iraq, libya,Nigeria etc) are orchestrated by foreign powers with interest (West) .

Unless you have solid stand,it is better to play it smart ( Flirt with East, but dont ignore the West)

The chinese have zero investment in most african equity markets

These countries lost the 'war' against China long time ago!!!

When we talk of China having USD 2Tn worth of US bonds, are we talking of the Chinese people through the gov or Chinese Corporations?

If the later, the reality is that the Chinese Corporations are actually subsidiaries and associates of American Multinationals like Apple, Microsoft, GE etc which cannot repatriate their overseas profits directly into the USA due to taxation. They buy gov debt all over the world instead of paying dividends to Shareholders.

The inclusion of caribbean banking centres in the list of top USA debt holders convinces me that the latter is the case.
Life is short. Live passionately.
