Can I train for a marathon strictly by skipping/jumping rope?

I don't think skipping rope only can prepare you for a Marathon though the skipping rope works better than a treadmill.

But combining skipping, interval training, and deep stretching can prepare you for a decent run.

Thank you @Tycho, the reason i asked is that i can do 10kms comfortably in sub 45 mins but i can't jump rope continuously for more than 10 mins without taking breaks of around 60 secs.Hence my thinking was if i can skip continuously for 45 mins without a break;then i can do a marathon or a mini marathon in sub 4.5hrs or sub 2hrs respectively

I don't think this supposition is true @swenani. Running 21 or 42 kilometers bears the same rationale as a ten kilometer run.

In your case, your body knows how to handle energy use for the ten kilometers, does it know how to handle a Marathon?

Then there's the question of mental energy and will power, and general body strength.

I wonder how much time you've got to prepare for the Marathon?

What exercises have you been doing?

A lot of running...moderate strength training.

That's should work, combine running or cardiovascular exercises with core training such as dead weights and squats. Vary the speeds, weights and reps for each.

Skipping is also effective and don't forget to eat fish efficiently coz you will burn fat and keep your wife happy and safe from the likes of jguru, impunity and magigi

I've been working with some clients on using plyometrics and jump exercises along with some yoga poses like planks, the pump, the 'boats' and others along with the other usual forms of exercise and the results are pretty encouraging. Then of course one should watch what he eats and when he eats.

Came across this feature on BBC over the weekend:

Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.
