The preparations for the 2010 world cup in South Africa went relatively smoothly, ( stadia were completed 100 days before the WC as were infrastructure upgrades).
The preparations in Brazil are so shambolic that they make Nyamweya’s 2013 CECAFA fiasco look like childs play.

Yaani
- Stadia construction is incomplete
- Some airports construction is so incomplete that some new terminals are still missing entire walls. The big hole in the wall is covered with tarpaulin (hema)
- Some airport terminals are incomplete and will be replaced with canvass tents
- Some cities refused to build facilities for fans : Mayor of Porto Alegre said the city may drop out if additional funding was not found to build facilities for fans
- In the city of Cuiaba had its official opening match last Wednesday with 50 percent installed seats and construction work still in progress.
- Consctruction costs have exceeded estimates by 300%
- Lots of infrastructure plans initially included in the master plan have been abandoned .e.g monorail and bus projects
- Airlines in Brazil are taking advantage by hiking fairs

And when it comes to the Olympics:

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Vice-President John Coates has called Brazil's preparations for the 2016 Rio Games "the worst" in his experience and critically behind schedule before warning that there was no "plan B" to find another host.

From the articles Im reading, Brazil has not even started constructing the main stadium nor the athletes village. This could be a disaster of huge proportions for IOC. I am not sure what they were thinking when they chose Brazil. A country that has little or no pedigree in hosting global sporting events. Afadhali India has hosted the commonwealth games and the cricket world cup

Take heart Brazil. Kenya is set to hold double olympics, back to back.

100 days before the world cup, Sepp Blatter held a press conference announcing that South Africa was ready

Also , South Africa finished all the infrastructure projects that were planned for the WC. Brazil has given up on infrastructure updates. The construction cartels, bureaucracy and multiple layers of government doomed those plans. Thats why you have airport terminals that are covered with canvass.

But you are right that the tournament will still be played. But it may be chaos. There may be Protests everywhere and fans may find it difficult travelling around the country. The recent accidents at construction sites was due to last minute rush. This incompetence is even costing lives.

If they think that then why did they give the world cup to South Africa then Brazil and Qatar ?

If anything it is Brazilians who seem to think that the WC should not have been given to Brazil. Look at all the protests. Protesters are saying they want schools and hospitals at the FIFA standard instead of stadiums at the FIFA standard

With regard to the Olympics, I dont know what IOC was thinking when they awarded it to Brazil. That country has no pedigree when it comes to hosting large events. It may have been better to give it to India. At least they have hosted the cricket world cup and the Commonwealth games. IOC should have waited to see how things shake out with the WC then offer Brazil the 2020 Olympics.

How is it possible that you are two years away from the Olympics and you have not started construction on the main stadium or the athletes village. This kind of shambolicity makes Nyamweya look very competent.

Even if Brazil pulls it off at the last minute, it makes them look highly incompetent.

Russia and Qatar, Blatter & Co. eat nicely!

South Africa was to save face after the Germa Fiasco.

Brazil with the love of soccer can be ill prepared for such an event.

Regardless Brazil tuko ndani!

Brazil ni kama Kenya tu. You have some competent governors like Mutua. But you also have some like that clown Ranguma in Kisumu county who could not get his stadium ready for CECAFA for KPL top 8 and now cant host KPL matches because he cant remove the huge pile of garbage near the stadium. And Kisumu stadium did not even build new terraces.

And you also have jokers like Nyamweya who get teams locked into their hotel.

Ngojeni muone Brazil vile kutakuwa. Huko pia kuna ma Ole Lenku, na Nyamweya na ma Ranguma. Ever heard of Ricardo Teixiera ? He was the former chairman of the Brazil Federation. His corruption is worse than Nyamweya, Hatimy and Maina Kariuki put together.

I also think this is just noise to ensure that in future only developed countries have the privilege of making cash out of other people's sweat.

For example. There is no reason why kasarani should not be good enough for a world cup match after a replacement of the playing surface and a repair of its facilities.
The world cup should be played in the same fields where brazilians play their domestic leagues.

Correction, Mutua was not ready to host CECAFA matches. The field flooded and an alternative venue was used. How was he prepared when drainage was not properly dealt with. As usual some folks praise him regardless of his deception. He invented excuses and ended up transporting fans fron Macha to watch the game in Nbi.

some guys just praise his deceptions, he has done nothing so far, just talking - even that stadium is just photo-shopped, video-shopped and real time natural shopped to hoodwink all the gullible souls out there. I don't even think the stadium hosted any matches, it was a total mess. smile

No field in Kenya has proper drainage to deal with heavy rain. So the Machakos stadium is no different from Nyayo or Kasarani in that regard. I have been at Nyayo stadium when a game was called off because rain rendered the pitch unplayable.

I hope you realize that hosting Olympics and world cups are not actually profitable endeavors so your notion of making money out of other people sweat does not arise.

Greece hosted the Olympics and the debt they incurred played a role in precipitating their financial collapse years later.

Montreal hosted the games in 1976 and it took them 30 years to pay off the debt.

South Africa spent $3 billion. They sure as hell did not recoup that money. The number of visitors to SA in June and July 2010 was actually lower than during non-world cup years.

South Africa is now saddled with huge stadia that are white elephants. FIFA insisted on a new state of the art stadium in Cape town. The stadium is now rarely used and costs a fortune to maintain. Ditto the stadiums in places like Nelspruit.

Brazil is also building a number of white elephant stadiums in places like Manaus where the local team cannot draw more than 3000 fans per game. After the world cup, they will either have to spend tax payer money to maintain it or just demolish the stadium. It may be cheaper to demolish

As for the Olympics, most Olympics make a loss. The exception is when a country has all the facilities ready and there is no need to construct new ones.

With regard to Kasarani , the fact that it is not an all seater stadium disqualifies it from hosting FIFA events. never mind the fact that it has no luxury boxes, corporate hospitality, restaurants and other amenities that curry favor with FIFA. Oh and the running track makes the sight lines horrible. Fans need to be near the field.

The fact that you mention Kasarani shows we Kenyans are jokers. Only two stadia have been built in Kenya since independence.

See this article about Kenyan stadia. It has images of Zambia's gleaming new stadia
