I think its something to do with going to parliament. There are guys who are serious defenders of democracy and common good until they land to parliament where they have some loyalties to defend regardless of what commonsense dictates. They can go to any lengths. Look at guys like Kiraitu, compare his pre n post parliament life, there are so many examples of such guys whose logical minds changed completely once they landed in parliament.
