Is 149 a good position?

I asked myself the same. With all fairness he should be somewhere in top 50.

Now.... Now.... It surely shows that he is a liability.
I wonder which team will sign him next. May be the guy is not as good as we think.

149 was a good position for a person who arrived in Europe with very raw skills but has improved dramatically. People do not seem to have an appreciation for how difficult it is to make it in Europe. Even making it in a lower league like Sweden is difficult for a forward. Especially from a country like Kenya with no player development. The best you can hope for if you are an offennisve oriented player is Finland or Albania

This season he has been ravaged by injuries which may now be taking a toll. His best season was when he played in the Champions league and scored over 12 league goals. We may have seen the best of Oliech.

But he will go down as Kenya's greatest striker ever

This is the player we should be focusing on, Mike Okoth's son, Divock Origi currently at Lille. Shida ni moja, he's already featured for Belgium U-21 so as its stands yeye si Mkenya......though he can still change his mind and play for Harambee Stars.

Divock Origi will play for Kenya only if he reaches his late 20s and Belgium still has not capped him. Which is unlikely. If he does not play in WC 2014, he will surely play for Begium in 2018.

Currently the best for Kenya bet is Timbe Masika who so far has declined to play for harambee stars because Nyamweya did not give him a return ticket and his coach in Belgium was furious when Masika came back several days late.

A better bet is to get proper officials in office so Kenya can build from the grassroots. In terms of raw talent, In terms of raw talent Oliech is 5 times better than Divock. But talent alone gets you nowhere. Divock has been schooled in proper youth setups which makes a huge difference.

Kenyans should stop looking for shortcuts and demand proper player development structures.

Oliech was once one of the most talented young strikers but he felt that he had arrived once he landed in Nantes. With a little humility and more hard work, he would have gone further than he has. In my eyes, he achieved just as much as Mike Origi Okoth who played in an earlier era, was less talented and had converted from goal keeper to striker. Mariga despite a shorter injury filled career was always more convincing as belonging to the big stage. On Mugubi, he looked promising when he had more license to attack in the Scottish league. Hopefully he wont end up forever in the scrapyard that is mid and bottom tier of English football.

A number of things are wrong with your post:

1. Oliech worked hard in France. His game improved dramatically. he was very raw when he arrived. But he got to the point where he could shoot equally well with both feet and send some very precise crosses. There is youtube footage of Oliech scoring some superb goals with his weaker foot. You can see him making very intelligent runs to put him in scoring position. All That comes with hard work.

2. Oliech achieved a lot more than Mike Okoth. He was in the starting line-up of a team playing in the champions league. He scored 12 goals in the French league while playing as a winger.

Note that Mike Okoth was known as a super-sub Belgium.

3. The odds of a Kenyan striker succeeding in France are very low. European teams are not inclined to sign a Kenyan because Kenya has no football pedigree.
