Estonia may well be headed that way :

1. Electronic Voting In Estonia

For the IT geeks, the source-code of their server-side platform is up on Github.

2. Estonia's e-voting platform

My point exactly!! it's only IT geeks who are able to truly assure themselves that it works as expected. Kwanza not all IT geeks but rather IT geeks that are proficient in python! The most romantic thing about election day is that Election Day is the one day when we strive to give an equal voice to every eligible voter! It’s the day that the woman working in the market has as much of a say as any wealthy banker or CEO. It’s the day that the illiterate have a voice that speaks as eloquently as that of a university professor. <--- this must be guaranteed!

Technology facilitates - you see... the process in kenya is 'manual', while we have an electronic register that makes it easy for maintaining the manual aspect of the register still applies - being hung for exhibition and verification, being printed for verification on election day e.t.c. the register db is oracle but the important extract from it is Physical. The candidate nomination system is also electronic but the extracts are physical - candidate lists for gazettement, for ballot printing e.t.c. on election night the results transmission system transmits 'provisional' results to cool your impatient brains but the real system is manual. ION, Kenya is mixing and getting the best results for each aspect of it's election process. We are getting comfortable with both processes.

Just before the Indian elections (currently ongoing) kicked off last week but one, there was a CNN feature on the logistics and I briefly caught snippets of some gadget they were going to introduce in selected places (piloting?) for digital/electronic voting.
Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

SGR appears shaky. LAPSSET seems dead on deathbead. Laptops still seem far aways. A stadium per county, dead. Microchipping cows to deter rustling, dead. Now we are into biometric IDs that will cost 8B Kes, this is not a priority for Kenya at the moment, we need to fight corruption even if means using 100B Kes, the fruits will be felt so soon!!!!
