a bit of digression, i had heard stories of guys buying lexus which later turned out to be harriers, then i went to dubai and saw how they actually do it, they take a very beat harrier then give it a lexus kit changing the interior and making it look every inch like a lexus but its not, they then ship it to africa where unsuspecting buyers buy a lexus when in real sense its a harrier lexus. thinking of getting a lexus? then be very careful detail detail detail

From Lexus RX one would surmise that Harrier was originally intended for the JDM while Lexus was its export version.

Quote:
The Lexus RX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV sold since 1998 by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota. Originally released in its home market of Japan in late 1997 as the Toyota Harrier, export sales began in March 1998 as the Lexus RX.

not always, sometimes Lexus has more bells and whistles e.g leather quality than Toyo though the fundamendoz are the same.

Fundamendoz not the same. Toyota Harrier <> Toyota Lexus; VW Toureg <> Porsche Cayenne; Mitsubishi Pajero <> Mitsubishi Montero <> Mitsubishi Shogun

This is exactly what I was saying. Quote from the article

Quote:
Mechanically speaking, the JDM equivalents and Lexus are, to a large extent, similar, with the differences being in options like leather seats, safety features, GPS etc.
