Once you insure a car, the rest are all cost extras. As @Swenani says, if the whole dunia can't trace a Boeing, fitted with all manager of gadgets, what about a vitz in the Kenyan budus by the Kenya police?

iTRACE Afrika. Got them off google trader before it was shut down. Total of 20k one-off payment for purchase and installation. Load your device's SIM with credit periodically (100 bob lasts me about 2-4 wks). To find location at anytime, simply call the device and it sends back a text message which essentially is a link on google maps with exact location at that time. To immobilize, just send a text to the device.

Not really, this is mostly used by those in the transport business eg car hire, mats, trucks etc

It means a car is more advanced tech-wise than the 777 jetliner, since it can always give it's location, unlike the plane.smile

That's what i meant too. As a management and logistics tool its fine. For security, even most companies selling the gadgets do not have the necessary capability to launch a search on the event of a loss.Having a charged cellphone in a car is a free "tracking gadget".

Have your wiring guy wire it in such a way that it's constantly charging. The driver doesn't even have to know of it's existence. Credit unaisambazia tu.

"How do you track the cellphone if you fit one in your car?"

You have to install a GPS software app on the phone. Many of them available on google play store. Most of them are meant for social networking. This include: life360(iPhone), find my friends(android), gps tracking pro.

Requirements:
Basic android/iphone phone with GPS feature.
Airtime

Steps:
>Download app and install

Standard registration between friends
> You may have to take a "friend acceptance" step i.e standard procedure to allow one "friend" on phone A locate the other friend on the other end

Basically thats it. App, "friend acceptance", GPS on, phone on car (friend A), you (friend B) on the other tracking the other friend using your phone (same app installed) or website(probably the app website).

Tried it about a year ago using google latitude(app). Worked very well, you could view the car move from the other end using google maps. Unfortunately, google latitude was retired.

Limitations.

1.Possible complications of auto charging your phone in the car (Didnt try it though).

2. Say you realize that your car is moving and you are not the one driving it, you also watch it on the maps heading to kariobangi or a godown in kayole kuchinjwa.....Harafu ?

3. Cost, might not be as cheap as it seems.

Therefore an alarm system with sms immobilizer fitted makes more sense. Many available from china (Chinese can do anything, they also export maasai carvings).

They normally have a simcard slot. After installation, basic setup is done i.e setting up the :password, sms words used to: immobilize, locate, number to send sms when door is opened etc.

Take care
of who does the installation for you as evidenced in this sad story where a man and his wife were car jacked when their car suddenly stopped (stopped for them remotely).

I was car Jacked ....
