Local telecommunications service provider Essar Telecom Kenya Limited’s ‘yu’ mobile phone service has introduced a new tariff where consumers will enjoy a flat rate of Sh6 for calls to all networks in Kenya.

The new flat rate tariff dubbed 'amua' is the lowest priced mobile tariff in the country,bringing calls down by 40 percent.

Yu Chief Commercial Officer Kunal Ramteke explained that the tariff will be billed per second,and this rate is applicable regardless of which network in Kenya is being called.

This guys are very creative,what they have done to recoup the discount they are offering in this tariff,is charge for the sms.

The previous tariff I belive is better in the long run 50c after the second minute and free sms.

@Adept

Cheap is relative.....compared to safcon ...this is a song remember its 6/- across networks......now a yu line is a must .....My scon line is now for receiving calls and Mpesa only .....Till further notice(by MJ)...

Cheap is subjective.....Ive never tried the quality of their network but I bet it's better than Safcon going by the recent cck report.....

@Fundaah - that was not a CCK report....in fact I'm beginning to doubt their methodology and approach. I think there are better ways of gauging call quality - the metrics they indicate,and if indeed they relied only on end user experiences with various operators,would make such a study very subjective and biased.

The problem with equality is that we desire that it be with those that have more than us rather that those that have less

@ impunity

This is a new tariff I think the 7.50 tariff is still on.

To migrate to the 6/= tariff you have to use a certain code.Once u migrate u will cease to enjoy the old tariff.

...what about those calling from other networks to Yu? I once called one of those networks from Uganda and in one minute 100 Ksh had gone.
