I'm considering buying either a locally used 2005 Premio or importing a 2007 one. What would be the pros and cons of the two routes?
Does anyone have an idea of the total cost of importing a Toyota Premio 2007 model? If so, what would be the cost breakdown?

Let me say that it is entirely upto the buyers preference. The 2000 cc one has a D-4 engine whose issues have been highlighted before... see earlier threads. It is however cheaper than both the 1800 and 1500 cc models. You should be able, should you decide to buy one, to import sub 900K. However, re-sale is a very big issue. Hiyo gari utakaa nayo. It is not very easy to sell 2000 cc cars. in my opinion 2000 ccs is very tricky to sell. Guys generally prefer 1500 and 1800. 1000 and 1300 also have their markets. Anyone ranging around 2000 ccs is not a person whose first question would be "Inakunywanga sana?". Such would usually not mind 2500 of 3000 diesels. As for the 2000 cc one, power is very good, performance is also good. Consumption is good AS LONG AS you keep it within the econo-mode. im however not sure on how well mechanics handle those D-4 engines of late. Some years ago there were questions on their skill levels... Im not an expert on that though.

@Wilyum... Yes guys are making good figures. Especially those who import the last quarter of the year. The current prices are honestly not good. So those selling 2006 cars that were imported late last year are making tidy figures. Several people will also buy high mileage units and accident grade cars then rewind the odometers to "low mileage figures". As for the accident grade cars (grade R, RA and RB), the car should have been repaired satisfactorily but I would not advice for any car that has had a front panel replaced (From the door all round to the other door, including the bonnet) as it would indicate a frontal collusion, of which the magnitude is of course unknown. As for all my client cars, I insist on grade 4 as a minimum. If someone is purely out for the price aspect then I will also consider grade RA or R and grade 3.5 but not below. And I also tell them to keep around 15k just incase the car comes with a few hiccups here and there. Trust me, I understand what Tokyo meant when he said there is no cheap car in Japan. Buy at a reasonable price from a reputable supplier and you still make some good savings.
@urstill1... I admit, sbt did me in last year. Horribly. The only problem is this... They have very clean cars quality-wise and price-wise. Furthermore they reveal the auction grades for the cars. The only problem comes in when they ship over 1000 cars and selling when on the ship. The modalities of dealing with the shipping documents becomes tricky. The cars i have bought from them this year... cant complain. And the documents come quite early. IBC is good but pricey. Papera good but pricey. My advice with papera is... avoid any associated dealer cars. They are not owned by them and it can get tricky coz the same car is advertised by more than one company. you can actually pay for a car that has already been purchased by someone else. Beforward... very cheap, slow shipment. Tomisho and alainjapan... very good deals on trucks and vans. i'm yet to import from them though im seriously searching for a small truck.

If at all you have an idea!! Average around a month plus or minus a week. If you got a very good deal but reasonably bad month you can request them to delay shipment. Some charge 100-150 USD, others dont as long as you will have committed yourself. The shortest it has taken me is 16days and the longest 3 months

@prime ,thank you very much, hw do u rate delight? Very efficient in shipping. very fair in price. Everything actually runs smoothly. They are also very fair in accessorizing the units. Majority of their cars will come with their alloys or music system. Generally very clean engines. Meticulous interiors. My only problem is that quite a number will have dents and scratches, which they will usually show. The quality of a majority is questionable. They will usually not reveal the auction grade of their units. You just use your eyes to decide. I tried looking for a probox last month and ALL their 2007 PROBOX cars were grade 3 or R which is an basically a car that has had an accident history with one or two panels being changed. You can however get a few grade 4 units with them at the same cheap prices. Mostly non toyotas though. I use the username and password that papera gave me to access the iauc auction site where I can actually check the exact auction grades and auction diagrams at the time the vehicles were bought at the auction. including the price they were bought at. As regards the auction grades, I have seen IBC presenting a grade R car as a grade 3 or 3.5. Though generally their cars are very clean too.

Majority of their cars will come with their alloys or music system. Generally very clean engines. Meticulous interiors. My only problem is that quite a number will have dents and scratches, which they will usually show. The quality of a majority is questionable. They will usually not reveal the auction grade of their units. You just use your eyes to decide. I tried looking for a probox last month and ALL their 2007 PROBOX cars were grade 3 or R which is an basically a car that has had an accident history with one or two panels being changed. You can however get a few grade 4 units with them at the same cheap prices. Mostly non toyotas though. I use the username and password that papera gave me to access the iauc auction site where I can actually check the exact auction grades and auction diagrams at the time the vehicles were bought at the auction. including the price they were bought at. As regards the auction grades, I have seen IBC presenting a grade R car as a grade 3 or 3.5. Though generally their cars are very clean too. Imported two units via delights in 2013...the entire process was smooth...and as @prime has said they do accessorize their cars and they are very..very clean. I've not had an issue with the quality but again I'm not privy to the auction site to access these grades (@prime..how can i get this access). Anyway, Delights have opened an office in Kenya and the guy we were dealing with in Japan relocated to Nbi to be based here. No complaints with them so far.. Life and beer are very similar........chill for best results.

@Prime et al just wondering, is the mileage a correct indication of the state of the car? I have seen in SBT grade 4 Toyota vehicles with mileages of over 100k On the note how would your compare the interior of an allion with an impreza, which one has more space? to be or not to be remains the question
