yep!!! to Eastleigh -Garissa lodge buy 8 bags each worth 600/=4800/= if you are a chick carry one to work and tell one of your lady colleagues that you have these beautiful bags that are going for only 1000/=. and you will see how all will disappear within minutes. If you are a dude patia your galfriend tell her to go do marketing to her friends. tell your guy pals to buy for their galfriends as a surprise. After selling all of them you will have made an extra 3k add the capital of 5k equals 8k. reinvest all the capital, this time mix shoes, bags jewelery etc. and there you have it!!! i guess women make the best customers. business trick.. talk, talk to pple, talk to more pple.

Roasting maize....very good business during cold whether.....You buy a metallic basin(700/) and modify it with soil and a wire mesh...about (200/=) ..... see an existing current maize roaster and steal some expertize.... start with 50 maize cobs @ 5 cost and sell @ 10 ..... you also need charcoal...100/= for a start ...

Total investment 700+200+250+100=1250/= and you are in business....Remember to join a sacco so that you can move from maize roasting to a better business(eg food kiosk) fast through sacco loan.

look for a strategic position to start your business ....beware of city council ......but in the slums you will hardly get any problem.....

You can also try the liquid soap business.. You only need 400/= to buy the chemical. the 20ltr mtungi itself, the 5litre Jerricans(about 6 of them) and maybe a mixing bowl. Oh,and water.. All this will cost you about 900/= for the first attempt, assuming you dont dilute the soap too much. Each 5 ltr jerrican of soap goes for about 200bob... so if you get a good market(you can start with neighbours and friends),you can make quite some good cash per week. Make quality soap and avoid too much diluting and your clients will always come back for more and refer you to others. Become buddies with Mamas and people who can help you sell soap at their work places... It's a very lucrative business

You can try joining Oriflame which is one of these Multilevel Marketing things. The good thing is that startup is 900 and you are in business. They deal with cosmetics made out of natural stuff.

You can call Eva on 0720319819 for more details. And of course, women will give you good business in it.

If this becomes your niche, you can also try GNLD.

if you are not in another employment you can also consider buying a wheelbarrow..

buy fresh fruits in gikomba early in the morning and hawk them around bus stop and busy places in the estate...

this will pay off..

Very encouraging responses coz the 'don't have enough capital myth' is being shattered right here.
The type of bizna you start will also depend on your location/base of operation where you will have to consider consumer's purchasing power, tastes and preferences etc.If you plan to move around a lot to buy your raw/fresh materials(whichever the case may be) and then process and/or deliver to your target customers, then you need to factor in transportation costs as well.

Things may come to those who wait, but only what’s left behind by those that hustle.

Great thinking, way to go..................whoever said that the only thing that starts from up is a hole was spot on!
@Fundaah,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,why Fundaah? where I come from this denotes a beast of burden(anyway I never know) - crap for another day though.

Point is,you asked where the chemicals for soap making can be bought;several places down at good old Kirinyaga road stock these,a certain coy called Rumorth is one of them(contacts in the directory)
But the ladies you have in mind would have to know about the chemicals to buy and how to make the stuff;should there be need I know of a lady who can offer training at a very reasonable fee.

Everyone should be heard and respected!

This being a community site ...we share information pro bono....as payback to the society for the pain of educating us......can you try to 'steal' for us the process and chemicals required to make soap from that lady and post them here.....It could go a long way in uplifting the lives of some women some where....They may not be able to meet even that 'reasonable fees' for now.....Remember not many people read this site so your friend's 'secret' may not be found by many....

My cleaning lady is the one who makes the soap for sale, she buys the chemical from Kariobangi light industries(ati karibu na hapo kwa supa loaf..hehee!,please dont ask me where the heck that is..),tells me there're a couple of shops that sells it...but if you're seriously interested, she can direct you to the specific shop that she buys from at 400/= per 20ltr mixure plus the perfums et al. and that guy will give you directions on how to use the chemical,or you can invite the lady over and she can show you how to(you'll just cater for her busfare and a token for the lessonsmile)
Hope this helps...
