YAOJIN 1807 decoder from Jolini brings you all these when in Nairobi but note that as soon as you move further away from the outskirts on Nairobi, some channels may not show. All these channels and plus others will show in the whole country in due course.

I have seen several diy post about installing the free to air satellite, I would like to take this up as a project, a small challenge that will probably keep me busy for the time being.

where in Nairobi can I get the needed equipments, i.e the right size dish, decoder and the other tu gadgets for checking signal strength and stuff.

Walk around the general neighborhood of Luthuli Avenue and get into shops such as Riwara, Spikes Spares and Electronics, Mwalimu Communications, Alpha Sounds, etc.

In general, you'd require;
i. Decoder. Strong SRT-4922HD currently going for around 6.5-7k.
ii. Satellite dish. Cost depends on type (whether prime focus or offset) and size.
iii. C-band and Ku-band LNBs. Different brands exist, make sure you buy one right for your dish. In general, the feedhorns for offset and prime-focus type lnbs are different.
iv. Cable. Always aim at grade RG6 cable and above. In general, cable run from lnb to decoder should not exceed 30m or else an in-line amplifier will be necessary. Approx cable cost is 35-45bob/m.
v. DiSEqC switch, generally costing 1-1.5k.
vi. F-connectors. Usually cost around 10bob each.

If you want a satellite signal finder/metre, please go for one that is at least able to decode DVB-S2 signals of at least 32APSK. Unfortunately, such are not available in Nairobi (a good example being SatLink WS-6918P) and one would have to import, preferrably from China, at a general cost of at least US $ 300. Have a look here for general idea on prices.

All the best pal.

Ahsante sana, managed to complete the set up with a 90cm offset dish, srt 4922 receiver and inverto single lnb, currently pointed to the 7w nilesats.

You're most welcome pal. Are you able to get the CNN/Bloomberg tp (11977v) and the EuroNews tp (12015v)?

no, those two tps proved hard to get - I got a flicker of green on (11977v) but could not get it at a stable point, guess i will need a bigger dish than my 90cm

After much tinkering, managed to get 78% signal quality on the 11977 V 27500. BBC, Euronews, Press TV, Al Jazeera, MTV all in English and very clear, CNN cracks at times. Nilesat is truly a nice bird. The HD channels are the best. So tempted to sell my Dstv decoder and dish. Long live FTA. Thanks Ranksat for the encouragement.

Congratulations on nailing Nilesat, the awesome bird. For the News channels in English, such as CNN (11978 V 27500), BBC (11767 H 27500), Press TV, AlJazeera, Euronews, NHK, CCTV etc, you'll need a bigger dish. All the above channels are FTA hence very legal.

Unscrambling BEin Sports
You can buy a Bein decoder and watch the channels legally. Check OLX and secure a deal.

Illegal way/Dark side.
OPening of pay tv channels is highly illegal with very hefty charges, you better off not going that way.
For purposes of information, the Chinese have found ways of hacking pay tv codes namely DSTV and BEIN sports. Nigeria leads in that and have dedicated blogs on how to do it.

Don't know much about Skybox, find out if it supports CCCAM or DQCAM thereafter purchase an account online.
Invest in decoders such as Azsky, Qsat, Xman, Xmaster which have inbuilt accounts that open Bein Sports as well as DSTV.
Refer to the following blogs for more information.

http://lemmymorgan.com/
http://munjy1.blogspot.com/2013...sokoni-na-zinafanya.html

Next you'll wonder how to get some of these decoders locally, check out the Facebook group below, you'll find Kenyans who might have the products, alternatively, you can import from Aliexpress using the new Nakumatt Global Card.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/azsky/

Finally, i repeat, opening pay TV channels is highly illegal, the new CCK act is harsh to offenders. Avoid the darkside. FTA is the best way, you track satellites with no worry of outages or being extorted which is rampant on the dark side especially Nigerians.

nilidhani hata hiyo ni illegal, its only for the middle east / mena region - this part of the sahara only one extortionist has the right to air specific europe leagues.

The "legally" in this context was in reference to absence of outage due to blockage which is frequent on the dark side.
Bein Sports has different channels, most are in Arabic save for 11 and 12. I guess you were referring to EPL rights in which Big Brother has rights for Sub Sahara. Well, Kenyan laws have nothing on EPL rights, the best Big Brother can do is refer to such cases in the UK where pub owners were fined for using foreign decoders to air EPL. Big brother could use the CopyRight act but to what extent, no idea. In summary, better get a genuine decoder than hack Big Brothers codes.

http://www.bighospitality.co.uk...llite-football-screening

http://blogs.cardiff.ac.uk/law/...f-the-law-luke-mcdonagh/

"Furthermore, from a copyright perspective it was confirmed that a football match is not a copyright work in itself. However, the CJEU found that any surrounding media, such as any opening video sequence, the Premier League anthem, and various graphics, were copyright works, and that no licence had been given by the owners of these works for broadcast in the UK, other than via Sky’s official services."

Another option is to watch the channels on IPTV, all you need is a good internet connection (fibre, not bundles). Its through IPTV that i've watched some of the Bein Channels.

I'm not big on movies. Out of 18 MBC channels, about 6 are in English , 2 Fox movies, Top Movies, sometimes, Dubai TV screens movies in English, Rotana classic
If you have the space, get a bigger offset dish and hunt for Eutelsat 7e.
