And why are the county govts still hiring? Central govt employees should have been redeployed to the counties.

This government is setting low standards for itself. Will the ghost workers also take a pay cut? Minimalist approach.

A series of events is about to unfold, next will be to trim down the counties and with tyranny, this will sail through.

Is this legal? Wont it be contested in court? I only see these happening in private sector where senior guys are sometimes forced to take a paycut or resign. Not sure this will sell in the public life.

Its not legal, Only the SRC is mandated to set the salaries of all public servants.Pay cuts in public service is supposed to be voluntary not forced

and what does their boss say? This deal is done boss!

Quote:
Salaries and Remuneration boss Sarah Serem said she is willing to take a 10 per cent cut on her sitting allowance.

She congratulated the President and the Cabinet for voluntarily taking a pay cut noting that is leadership by example

With this kind of suggestions, at this rate, I will not be surprised if someone suggests we print money in the near futureโ€ฆ
It is common knowledge that whatever salary one gets, over 50% ends up back in govt coffers in form of income tax, VAT, fuel levy, elec bills, etc. The rest, especially for high net worth individuals, is used for home/rental construction projects, entertainment, etc and ends up creating jobs in other sectors. Why not focus on high value decisions e.g. deal with high level corruption decisively. Reduce need for imports especially in construction industry. Make importation of Mtumba cars expensive, etc. to reduce capital outflows.
