are we heading towards a monopoly in the mobile sector?
Does this now validate the peculiar statement made by one of the CEO?. This is because no matter how good a deal the competition gives we still stick to the peculiar network.

How profitable is Orange's "fixed" business?

Cheers @dunkang, good to know. And it's not only you, Safaricom improved for a while last year. Now voice is worse, and data speedier but temperamental signal.

@Chaka Orange is the leader in fixed telephones, ADSL, and speediest data.
Just as Airtel remains the leader in mobile postpaid.

Interesting how everyone is good at something, such a pity we do not focus on our key strengths.

Hoping MTN grabs the opportunity ...always had this feeling they did not augur well with the "powers-that-be" in Kenya, but their entry could give Safcon & Bahati a real run for their monies.

Hadn't seen the thread. So orange now wants out. If MTN does break into KE that would an interesting turn of events.

But as @vvs says politricks can easily ruin things. I still feel the current consolidation will continue and a duopoly is the end result in KE. Treasury is stuck too deep in orange debts to get any nice deal on disposal esp with a buyer like MTN.

France Telecom, the company that owns the majority stake in Telkom Kenya, said on Friday that it was reviewing its Kenyan operation with a view to taking new partners on board to stave off a financial crisis.

The company, which trades as Orange, said that the review plan also includes the Uganda operation and that it had hired Lazard consultants to execute the task.

“The group has recently started a strategic review with regards to our activities in Uganda and Kenya,” France Telecom’s press officer Tom Wright told the Business Daily in an email.

“One option would be to find new partners in these countries to ensure that the necessary financial and operating resources are available to maintain investment and support the continued development of operations,” he said.
