DEPUTY President William Ruto will run for President in 2017, a source has said. Ruto’s close confidant and URP activist yesterday told the Star that Ruto is reaching out to leaders across the political divide to cement his candidature in the next elections.
The source, who requested anonymity, said Ruto has been in close talks with “friendly” TNA legislators and ODM MPs perceived to be rebellious. “Ruto has made up his mind and will be on the ballot in 2017. He is reaching out to several leaders and hopes to pick his running mate from the Luhya community,” he said.
He said Ruto is silently “not happy” about URP’s treatment by the Jubilee government, especially in state appointments. “Things are not right at the Deputy President’s office. All the budget expenditures must be approved by State House. Ruto is not happy with this,” he said.
In the past, Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has said the Kalenjin community is getting increasingly impatient with the Jubilee appointments which he says are skewed towards one party.
