Russian military spokesman has dismissed claims of an ultimatum for Ukraine to surrender as "complete nonsense". @Ecstacy,what is your source?

The biggest danger to Russia is Ukraine, they will not accept to give an inch of their country to Russia, the russians however could have some mwanya in that a good portion of ukrainians (them country folk) identify with russia for political reasons.

Aside from the Crimean Peninsula that is historically a Russian Naval facility similar to GUAM, Pearl Harbour, Diego Garcia or Okinawa for the US, Russia is not laying claim to any other region of Ukraine. Therefore, Putin is playing smart.

Contrary to opinions here, Putin already lost round one, in that the Ukranian leader ousted in the just concluded riots was russian leaning and the ukranians kicked him out coz he sided with Russia over the EU, so this new crisis is his second move.If this incident cools off at current status, the impression Putin will be creating is that he has gained, yet the fact is that nothing has changed, infact he has lost coz the Ukrainian leadership firmly shifts towards Europe. He has gained nothing he already had in the Crimean peninsula as it was already a Russian Naval base.

Putin and Russia will actually lose upto an entire decade of goodwill as a result of this crisis, because for a leader stability and reliability is extremely important.

China will certainly not support Russia, their strategic interest would not allow a Stronger country sharing with them over thousands of Border, plus a weakening of Russia works in their favour while a weaker US for now does not favour them.

This story is developing by the hour.

Ukrainian defense said "The head of Russia's Black Sea Fleet Aleksander Vitko set the deadline and also threatened two warships"

However, Interfax news agency later quoted a fleet spokesman who denied that any ultimatum had been issued.

It's in Ukraine's interest to make Russia look dangerous but it is also a fact Russia has also been issuing conflicting statements since the crisis in November.

Russia's intent will be known in action in what seems to be at most a matter of days, if not hours not weeks.

The AP reporting that the US has told Russia that this threat to Ukraine navy would be `dangerous escalation' and Moscow would be responsible.

Media reports about an alleged Russian ultimatum made to the Ukrainian armed forces in Crimea are “total nonsense,” a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry said.

He said that no ultimatum had been made to the Ukrainian forces, Interfax reports.

“We have become accustomed to the daily accusations by the Ukrainian media of carrying out some sort of military actions against our Ukrainian colleagues," Russian Black Sea Fleet representative said, adding that “those who want to pit us against each other in the Crimea won’t succeed.”

Also, a source in the Russian Defense Ministry told RT that they are unaware of any Russian ultimatum toward the Ukrainian forces in Crimea.

Russian stocks have crashed by 11% of its value today alone due to threat of sanctions from U.S. People are dumping stocks as they fear retaliation over Ukraine crisis. The value of the drop is about 58,000,000,000 USD. This is more than what was spent in organizing Sochi olympics. Imagine the losses if sanctions are initiated.
Putin must back down and beg for forgiveness.

I don't think the Crimean forces that initially got disarmed did so willingly. The problem now is the Crimean Forces have refused to surrender and have shared the threats issued.

Not all forces in Crimea are willing to defect. That fleet commander who defected has discovered a good number of the forces didn't follow suit. They were singing pro-Ukrainian songs.

Now, the US State Department has just stated it's currently working on targeted sanctions.

The mixed messages from Russia do seem deliberate to expose the opponents thinking. No need second guessing now, we wait and see the Russian actions.

Disarming a sovereign army on their soil and surrounding the local defense facilities will not last forever..

EU has told Russia to deescalate the situation in Ukraine by Thursday. Failure to do so will result in punitive measures. Two events are expected to follow.
1. Obama will announce crippling sanctions within 48 hours.
2. Russian stocks to lose another 20% of value by the weekend.

Ofcourse not all are pro russia but Russia wants to push for a referendum to secede the same way they overthrew a legitimate govt. If a call for secession is called. Russia will carry the day. That KGB guy is not damn he is playing his cards, He knows the "tribal differences" that exist in Ukraine and more so in Crimea.
