Not sure whether it may be necessary. Why would you want them removed? Treating the infection may solve the problem.

Tonsils are the mass of tissue at the back of your mouth, tonsillitis is the disease that strikes them (its mostly viral) and tonsillectomy is the surgical removal of them tonsils. Tonsillectomy is a minor surgery it has its benefits and minimal risks in adults

Thanks @Tebes

Surgery has its risks! as you have been informed here is a good list of risks that you face
http://ent.about.com/od/...our-Tonsils-Removed.htm

the point being - although things can go wrong its a low risk procedure you just need to be eductated on these things. I still have mine in me smile . I personally don't like hospitals and surgery! so if you can stay with themn - stay with them if not... know that its a low risk procedure.

A lady I knew of got her Tonsils surguically removed but she passed on a month later due to some undisclosed reasons, do you still need the contacts of the medic who served her?

You do something that triggers your tonsils, look for a shortcut by removing your tonsils (as you continue doing the same thing that triggers those tonsils) and expect to eventually get well? Disease/pain is a way of the body telling you something your doing is harming it, if you remove the tonsils (OR ANY OTHER SURGERY FOR THAT MATTER) it will find another avenue... at that rate, you'll remove every part of your body.

mine was triggered by a homa/cold/*byanyname*...what of my actions could have brought about this and how can it be avoided in future? I suppose you never get these things? Sad Sad

Unfortunately I had mine removed as a kid, I can remember the pain so many years later. Please don't remove them... strive to answer that question you are asking. Please
