I don't think these guys were eyeing the 440bn deal. they just wanted to be able to sell the name to the real owners for some small change....say, a few million bob.
There was also some other guy who had registered Vodafone Kenya Ltd at the onset of the creation of Safaricom. Can't remember how the matter was resolved but I do recall Vodafone Airtouch PLC going to Kenyan High Court to protest.
I suspect the guys were paid something small. BUT do NOT confuse that with the case of Mobitelea!
